I noticed this morning iCloud+ Relay under settings is causing a WebKit extension failure saying in not connected to the internet. Turn it off and Safari works.

looks like a VPN was the cause with it enabled.

if Apple only would care about Maps and Weather in more countries...in Switzerland it's just a mess. I live 10 minutes outside of the capital Berne and our satellite view is probably about 4-6 years old.
Also with weather, we don't get the fancy features like in the US

Noticed the same although the internet connection of the entire phone is a bit unstable and I’ve had to reset network settings to get it back online.

So I was bored. And decided to make a screen with nothing but shortcut widgets on my iPad. And noticed that they have a super sized version of Apple Arcade. I wonder if that means that other widgets may actually get this really big super size as an option?🤷‍♂️
Interested to see how this looks like in portrait mode. Could you please post a screenshot? ☺️

iCloud+ Relay is interesting. Apple should be capable of having deals in place to make sure latency, throughput and connection is very good at all times. Currently, it seems limited in the BETA as US seems to be the only location offered but I suppose that is to be expected as it's the first developer BETA.

But is it only relaying Safari? We have an additional configuration that can be done on Safari to chose it its going to relay websites or only trackers. Does this mean it won't affect any apps or anything else so you will still have to configure a system-wide VPN if you want to hide your IP-address etc from third-party apps?

So far the BETA1 seems solid on both my iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. And I have to say, even though the presentation was rather boring there are quite a few noticeable quality of life improvements here. Using Safari on my iPhone is much better with the address bar at the bottom etc.

I am in France and it seems it goes through Germany for me

love the settings app UI change. I actually had a tweak once a device that let me do this. It’s a small change you see in the comparison, but the way your eye navigates, well mine does, it makes it easier. love. Good old Arron.
Good reviewer big Zol, I’m over the moon that we can now customize our Animoji clothes and accessories 🙄 so glad I woke up at 3am to watch the event, love my Animojis 🙄🤦‍♂️

The Private Relay feature also decreases download/upload speed and increases ping. I've set it to 'trackers only' for now :)

This is most likely a result of the feature being very limited in BETA1. You won't get getting a IP-address from outside the US either so obviously they have yet to turn on all the relay servers that are going to be in place for the release. So most of us will have suboptimal relay having all our traffic relayed through a server within the United States and this will have negative impact on latency and throughput. I expect this to change during the BETA as I would expect Apple to ensure the at they have relay servers in pretty much all regions otherwise localisation data within Safari would be terrible for many users.

I have never felt older (32) than during this keynote because I cannot relate to those app improvements at all. Like why would I ever listen to music with someone over facetime together? That’s just weird to me. Generally I am not much of the „sharing“ type unless it is news articles #old
I've got you by another 20 years and really understand your feelings here. But remember, the intent here was to make Messages more of a "social interaction" platform so they are not thinking of us as a target audience. They are aiming at a younger demographic who have known nothing but "screen time" since they could first get a cell phone.

Silly me, when they were dropping hints about significant updates to iMessage, I envisioned them opening it up to Android with an Android app (even though they don't want to do that because they still see it as a "reason to switch over"), or at least opening the platform up to accept/use the rich messaging protocol so you can see the typing activity, get delivery & read receipts and allow MMS messages on android come across as data to avoid the carrier SMS restrictions.

As for Mail, I was hoping for a UI update and increased functionality/features. Mail is still a bare-bones email app and Apple seems dead set on keeping it that way. Would prefer to use the stock apps where I can since you have a better chance at keeping some semblance of privacy with the Apple apps. (It is for this reason I don't use the Gmail or Google Maps apps any more.)

I get down off my soap box now.

Yeah nah. As solidly in the middle it's quite obvious that they are hitting at all the trends that occurred during the pandemic: features that was needed to communicate during business hours and features that was wanted to keep us together as human beings: shared experiences.

Neither of these have an age range built in.

Anyone noticed when you go into settings and general—>CarPlay, then customize, Most times there are no apps listed? If you do get a list of apps, they are out of order and no matter how you rearrange them, they revert back to whatever sort is the default.

I haven’t tried connecting to my car yet to see if CarPlay even works.

I've just enabled Mail Privacy (settings in iOS, preferences in MacOS).

This routes image requests through Apple servers that hide your IP address. However, if a tracking pic is unique to my email, I assume it would still let the sender know that the email had been received (i.e. the email address was valid), so I'm unsure how useful this is. Any opinions?

Just updated my iPad.

Has the setting been moved or are we stuck with 6x4 app grid? Assuming the latter to give us even numbers for widgets to slot into.

Feels very cramped compared to my previous 6x5.

Ask Jon Prosser, he’ll give you a 100% accurate answer.

That’s not new.
There's some confusion, I think. The Magnifier app isn't new. But they did apparently bring back the magnifying lens when you move the cursor. I haven't gotten it to work yet, although I remember liking it in earlier iOS versions.

In addition, per the Apple page, "Magnifier app. Magnifier becomes a default app on iOS, so you can use your iPhone as a magnifying glass to zoom in on objects near you."
