In the past iOS updates on my 13 Pro Max, I have found that resetting network settings + NOT pairing the iPhone to your Mac to be sync'd over WiFi, and removing most continuously updating Lock Screen widgets just about always fixes new iOS version battery drain.

At least on iOS 15.0x and 15.1x the worst widget for battery drain was Apple News Lock Screen widget. The excessive "Find My" battery drain was apparently due to the WiFi connection to my Macs always looking for the iPhone. I have not used Apple news widget or set my iDevice to connect to Mac via WiFi ever since, so don't know if it was fixed with later versions.

After resetting network setting, plug into Mac and Trust your iPhone to your Mac for wired connections only, rename your iPhone back to the old name (it gets reset to "iPhone"), and turn location back on to share with friends and family if needed (sometimes it's turned off in the process).

How have people been charging? I’ve been using my old 5W charger.

But I forgot to charge last night and then used the MacBook Airs charger. The fall off seems to have been a lot less this afternoon.

I’m going to not charge tonight and Fast charge first thing tomorrow for a better comparison.

What does the charger has to do with battery drain ?

Also having to switch certain ones off because they cause the battery to drain is ridiculous. We shouldn’t have to compromise what we use on our lockscreen because Apple can’t figure out battery drain. Or how to make them more efficient. How about not offer them if they can’t stop them draining the battery, or better yet if you can’t get the same battery life out of your new phone with the same battery, add a bigger one to it.

It’s been a trending topic on Google for a week. Even Fortune is covering it. But many of the tech sites have also, and have reached out to Apple. When enough pubs cover and question, action is more swift.

I noticed my iPhone 14 Pro Max when I restarted it it went from 50% restarted, came back on with 48% restarted again after a few minutes came back on with 47%. is this Normal to drop this much for a power on / off?

My battery has been TERRIBLE last few weeks, comparing to my iPhone 13 Pro Max, I don't use always on display, only really had a weather widget on my Lock Screen.

I haven't really noticed any battery issues on my iPhone XR unless I have to tether to my MacBook Air because the network in my office goes down every 15 minutes and they fixed the in office music and not the network issues. been doing that since Tuesday. that's ok, I get to leave much earlier since I will not tolerate that.

Yes it is, the bootup itself is normal to be more power intensive. Also, there may be times that when a restart occurs that the indicator may at times display incorrect information as well. Not common but does happen. Usually charging post-restart solves that hiccup though.

The astronomy Lock Screens use a lot of battery. I switched to just a black solid background....much better battery life.

I think the combination of AOD, any of the "active wallpaper/lock screens, and haptic typing are all contributing to battery issues as all of those features are going to use more battery. I wish Apple had made the battery larger especially where there is space in the esim only models.

The other super battery suck is the 200o nits outside boost....that kills battery fast....wish there was an easy way to prevent that from kicking in beyond turning off auto brightness

Is this normal? 20% plus battery drain overnight...Started at 76 then woke up to 54? And that is on lower power mode! I complained at my local Apple store and they said they hadn't heard such battery drain issues on iOS 16, they are lying. I'm currently on iPhone 14 pro. Worst battery issues I've had with a new phone and I've almost had every one.

I've turned off everything I can think of that drains the battery...which is stupid. I want to use all the new features including the lock screen (astronomy and weather), widgets on lock screen, etc but not at the expense of my battery life!

This thread is scaring… I’m refraining from update my iPhone 13 Pro because a few bugs are not a problem, but huge battery drain definitely is.
Same happened last year with ios 15, i mean its ok if you decided not to but you will be missing 2 or 3 months of the new ios.

And next year same thing will happen again and again and again...

I found out that some several App drain like hell on IOS 16 (even on 16.1 Pullic Beta) these are, Whatsapp Business and Facebook, I didn't turn of background app refresh for these and send all messages with notifications, that seemed to fix.
Also try to reinstall as Fresh Install, don't use any old settings. check your photos back them up, sometimes a Photo/Video or an "older iMessage" can get iCloud to get end in a loop.
At least that fixed it for me.
Now amazing Battery Life on iPhone 13 Pro Max and on my woman's iPhone 14 Pro Max, before it was like bunk...

Okay, I mean the screen that you get when you swipe from left to right to expose the widgets to the left of the Home Screen. And I agree, we should NOT have to disable features of the OS to get good battery life. I'm just relaying what helped with iOS 15.02 and 15.1 battery drain issues, which might be applicable here so people can get a quick fix while Apple works on the issue more.

In my case Apple News was set to NOT run in the background and yet it was using a significant amount of battery in standby mode. When I removed the Apple news widget from that screen, the battery drain improved in the iOS 15.02 and 15.1 updates that killed my battery life (15.01 was okay).

That left "Find My" causing the remainder of the severe drain, according to "settings > battery" usage reports. And "reset network settings" fixed it for me - this was replicable where I could pair and trust my advice to a Mac and create battery drain, and fix it by resetting network settings. I assume my iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPad mini 6 stopped looking for my Mac over WiFi, or reporting it's location, or whatever it does to stay connected, and the drain stopped as well. Trusting a wired connection had no impact on battery life.

The thread about battery drain in iOS 15 was full of people with the issue, and removing certain widgets that check the internet regularly, and reset network settings were a huge help.

What in the world is going on here? iOS 16.0.2 on iPhone 13 Pro.

Woke up to a dead phone this morning. Find My took 100% of 0 minutes?

Try "reset network settings" whenever Find My is using all of your battery. Just make sure you know all your important wifi passwords before you do this. You have to rename your iPhone back to whatever you called it before, because it's name will change to "iPhone"; and you'll have to "trust" your computer again if you sync to it. Don't enable Mac OS to iPhone syncing via WiFi, except through iMazing 3rd party app. Sometimes location sharing with friends will get turned off with the reset.

Just got my new iPhone 12 on Monday and the battery seems to be draining like crazy. Does anyone know if it’s any better with 16.1?

Also try to log out of iCloud and log back in.

But doesn't that also make all your iCloud photos and iCloud messages re-sync between your device and the cloud? That can take a long time if you have tens of thousands of photos, videos, and messages. I might still try either reset network settings, or at least turn off "show this iPhone when connected to the Mac over wifi" and see if it helps first.

But yeah, if the above doesn't help fix the "find my" 100% battery usage, logging out of iCloud and back in might help. In the past I've seen "Find My" battery drain when the iPhone is trying to find and connect to a Mac in which it is trusted to connect with over WiFi.

this is terrible.. How is the phone otherwise, is it slower with iOS16 than with iOS15? What percentage of life is your battery?
