iOS 16 Speculation Thread

9to5 Mac today said they are planning on not releasing a 16.6.1 and instead going to wait until 16.7 next month
Have to wonder if 16.7 is going to be a seperate update next month or going to be introduced the same time as Ios 17. If that's the case we are not going to have an update for another month
Well I would expect there to be betas of iOS 16.7 with a thread just about the time iOS 17 is renewed. So I would expect beta 1 any day now.
IIRC, iOS 15.7 didnāt have any betas and was released as an RC on the same day as the iOS 16 RC. So thereās a possibility that happens again this year with a 16.7.
macOS 13.6 beta has just dropped. Releases are still rolling out so might see a 16.7 beta drop yet.
Last year IIRC 15.7 showed up the same days as ios 16. May be the same deal here
No one has any ideas on that, but it looks like in the near future all the OS's introduced at WWDC 2023 will go RC soon and be released to public Sept 18th best guess. So in spite of no show 16.7, you might see a 17.1 beta 1 mid September.
You might not even see a 16.7. Or it might be released with no beta like the other updates to older iOS versions are.

It's out because of Security Vulnerabilities that Apple says may have been actively exploited in the wild. It's basically a security update.
I do wonder if this is going to be last iOS 16 update.
I think 16.7 will come out the same day Ios 17
Not all iOS 16 devices can use iOS 17, and this also fixes an actively exploited vulnerabilty. Of course it makes sense to release this update.

Looking like not for a quite awhile, just patches for now, until something in a future iOS 17 gets replicated to iOS 16 necessitating a 16.7

Given what I am reading, it makes all the sense in the world. Why do you assume that since YOU donāt know why Apple is releasing software, that it has no purpose.
Weāve seen time and again this year where Apple has had to tackle zero day exploits. This is just that one more instance of that, apparently.
Iāll take this over some 16.7 beta with bug fixes.
