All the bugs I've heard about in the initial version are still there from what I can tell. This must be just a minor patch.

I assume we are going to get 17.0.2 next week possibly. I looked back at Ios 16 and they had a .0.2 and a .0.3 before 16.1

17.0.2 is technically out, for iPhone 15 models only. We will likely get a 17.0.3 in the next two weeks to get all devices to the same iOS version/build.

Why didn’t they just do a Rapid Security Response update instead of a dot dot release? What’s the point of RSR if they don’t use it for these “just days after a major release” patches?

Because it was not just a security update but rather a pretty large bug fix update. It is several builds ahead and several hundred MB.

Is anyone else getting this in the app switcher? I’ve noticed it on both my iPhone and iPad. Random apps, even after a restart. Both devices updated via IPSW. Full clean install iOS 17 on the iPhone.

weather location is still broken. Works perfect on. iPad Air 5, but on the phone it's just - Peru or Lima. No street or else

17.0 (build 21A329) was probably fully baked at Apple the third or fourth week in August so they could put it on the new phones. But for the alleged zero day bug, that’s probably where we would have stayed until the new phones shipped. But since they needed to address the zero day, I suspect they just said “what the duck, let’s push out the bug fixes we would have pushed out next week anyway along with the security component”.
