Here are the security fixes for iOS 17.7:
Brilliant, thanks :)
There's a number of them there that seem quite severe. Haven't had time to check the score but guessing its a strong recommendation to update when reading of what's been fixed officially.
Guessing we will see a batch of similar fixes to earlier OS too fairly soon.

There's no guarantee all the apps on your device will work on iOS 18. New systems always come with bugs, and it's usually best to wait until all the wrinkles have been ironed out.

No ipsw for the last releases of an iOS strain sucks.
So my tactic of installing RCs of that last releases of an ending iOS life seems right. If i install RC from regular version, it is not downloaded as incremental update, but instead it is a full download and complete install. That seems to be as close as possible to an ipsw install?

IPSW is available at (ipsw dot dev)
It probably is the RC IPSW, which is actually the same build so… it’s the same than installing the 17.7 IPSW, right? I’ll wait to see the final results of iAppleBytes, and maybe try to perform a clean install. Although I’m quite tempted to jump to iOS 18 to be fair…

Yes it is the RC IPSW and it is the same build as the official release yesterday.

It's weird that iOS 17.7 RC is available as IPSW but non-beta iOS 17.7 is not... Anyway, just use the iOS 17.7 RC IPSW...

I updated to iOS 17.7 RC IPSW but did not last long since I learned that you can upgrade to iOS 18.0 RC on macOS 10.15 Catalina...

I'm going to stay on the stable release until I find something interesting that would make me install the developer beta...

How is battery on 17.7 RC/final compared to 17.6.1?
Haven't done a regular day with 17.7 yet so can't tell exactly. But considering I was using it as a hotspot this morning for an hour while listening to music with airpods on 5G and just some random checks and musiclistening at work its shows pretty good numbers.

Sure, on-screen time looks good but its far from the whole truth and shouldn't be taken into account in this case.

Phone 13 Pro with 85% health and I never use powersave or anything unless its less then 20% left.

Seems pretty ok. Gonna wait a few more days and then update if it still is good.
Downgraded yesterday from iOS 18 because of the battery, not bearable on the latest update.

I have to say that almost all releases with iOS 17 has brought better battery life for me.
This one is no exception.
Took it off the charger yesterday morning at 7 and still have 34% left.
Mostly 5G but haven't used it as much as I normally would, busy days at work. Still, very impressive.

But my experience has sometimes been the oposite from what many others might experience. I generally get a great battery time initially for the first week or so and then it seems to settle after a few full charges and goes down a bit. So the initially "wow" effect generally only lasts for a week.

Still have to say that 17.6.1 has been the better one overall, my guess is that they did something to the modem or tweaked cellular connectivity from 17.6. When not using WiFi and using 5G it has been giving me noticeable better battery life.

Fingers crossed that this boost I experience now will last.

I have had one strange bug/behaviour happening twice now since I installed iOS 17.7
I use iMessage quite a lot and sometimes I get a notification (badge) saying I have an unread message.
When I go into iMessage there's no new message. If I kill the app and reopen it the new message will appear.

Only happen twice so far but never seen this behaviour before.

Just installed iOS 17.7 on my two “stable” devices and I will install iOS 18.1 on my current, regular devices to use them more and see if it’s worth it.

Not gonna lie, I’m pretty excited to finally jump into iOS 18!

I downgraded the last devices from 18.1 to iOS/iPadOS 17.7.1 yesterday before it's too late. The newest one is an iPhone SE3 from 2022 and the oldest one an iPad Pro from 2017 and an iPhone 8 Plus from the same year. Those two couldn't get iOS 18 anyway. The 8 Plus has even only iOS 16, although the iPad had been released three months earlier.

But my Mac will keep testing the new betas and is on 15.2.

What’s the reason for your downgrade from iOS 18.1 on the SE 3? I’m seeing battery life is back to normal values and the Geekbench score is higher than previous versions so it has better performance. At least theoretically.
