Can you advise if it’s worth upgrading to iOS 18 on an iPhone 11? I don’t want to buy a new phone, but I’ve heard a lot of feedback that iOS 18 doesn’t run very well on the 11

Hi, I can only tell you that on my iPhone 11 Pro (85% battery health) iOS 18 works the same as on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. So I don't have any major problems.

The only thing I've noticed is that Apple's own apps such as Mail + Safari consume more energy than under iOS 17 - even though we don't have Apple Intelligence in the EU yet. 🤔

How has battery life been so far from 18.2?
And bugs and performance

Looking @ specifically iPhone 16 devices (any of em pro or plus or max )

16 pro, medium user, not a gamer, get the same battery life as 18.2, can’t really see any difference. Ca 3h SOT on 30-40% during a day until evening.

18.2 and 18.2.1 were awful on 15 Pro Max.
Like, 87% after 20 minutes.

Not sure if it was all foreground but was terrible.

I did a fresh install, and things seem so much better now it's mind boggling. I'll give it a few more days but so far that mystery mail background drain for multiple hours a night seems to have subsided.

I’m not talking about battery health though but the actual battery charge.

With 20W charger I’d see it drain faster from 100% and even sudden drops of 3-5% or more during the day. But when using a 5W brick the drop is more gradual and battery seems to hold the charge longer.

I’d managed to get 8.5hr SOT on 5W for about 78% of battery. Used a faster brick and I’m already down 27% for 2.5hr usage which comes to 9hr for 100%.

I’ve tried calibrating but no diff.
Battery health @89%.

YES,
using the 5W charger is surely better for battery health and even helps optimizing the battery capacity as it seems for me since years.

The faster you charge the iPhone or iPad, the worst for the battery.
I really don't understand people using fast chargers. If using the faster and stronger chargers the device (= battery) gets a lot hotter and this is NOT good.

I love the 5W charger a lot and have even bought two more of them to use them at several places if necessary.
They are very cheap second hand because everybody sells them to get the worse and faster chargers...
🤣 bigger is NOT always better....

In iMessage setting, Send & Receive, does anyone have this? Or knows what it means?
If you click it, it does nothing.
This is on some iPhones in Australia, don't know if it's in other countries.

Updated my trusty iPhone 14Pro from 17 to 18.2.1. It has 123 GB storage free.

Safari either does not open or stalls within a few seconds of playing online web videos (file shared on my local server). Video from these web sites previously played without issue. If it plays, first the sound goes then the video freezes as if some variable buffer area is exceeded. I installed Dave as a test and the same videos play fine. No issue with my 17.7.1 devices. I turned off Safari's Prevent Cross-Site Tracking. I was thinking perhaps a codec compatibility issue, but Dave would be using the same video engine as Safari?

Edit: This seems to be similar to the safari performance issues some have reported with iOs 18... the security/privacy settings that worked for some don't work for me.
