24hrs since this update on my ip16P and it’s silky smooth. I haven’t encountered any issues. Fingers crossed.
I only installed 18.5 on my iPad Pro this morning but there is a lot of sluggishness: taps sometimes take a while to be rected to and scrolling (up and down) with the keyboard is jerky, especially on this site. Hopefully this will smooth out; I plan to restart the ipad tomorrow after it’s had a day, hoping that will improve what I’m seeing. I am a bit surprised as 18.4 was very smooth from the get-go so I didn’t expect this to be quite as rough as it is.

Much better tonight. I’m assuming there was a lot of background processes going on initially. A lot smoother now.

My T-Mobile (US) hotspot is working just fine on 18.5 b1.
I have both IPV4 and IPV6 enabled and set to automatic; however my MBP still cannot get out. I even disable IPV4...didn't resolve the issue. Then, I added OpenDNS IPV6 addresses in DNS, problem solved.

Does the default maps app setting work here with this beta? Because in 18.4 when I’m choosing Google Maps, Apple Maps is still seen everywhere and does always open.

Can someone try to replicate this for me? When I try to edit a contact from WhatsApp, the app crashes every time. Is it supposed to take me to iCloud Contacts or edit it within WhatsApp?

Edit: Seems like it only crashes when I try to edit contacts that have more than one number assigned to them. Those with only one phone number work ok.

The default is supposed to be the default for you to use, app developers may choose to use Apple Maps within their apps. Apps like Lyft/Uber, weather, Flighty, Outlook, etc. may be using Apple Maps and I believe changing defaults should have no effect.

I have 2 home screens and then the App Library. Since upgrading to 18.5 I periodically “lose” the 1st Home Screen. (A restart restores the Home Screen in-tact, but it will disappear again… typically after a prolonged period of time where the device is locked.

Anyone else seeing this?

More of an annoyance but now that I am sure it is repeating I can submit a feedback report with hopes they might look at it.

I guess the public beta is released a week after the developer one (when it's Beta 1)? I use the developer betas, but find it awkward that the 18.5 Beta 1 is still not out in the public channel – as it's a small update anyways.

Well, 18.5 beta 1 not out for public simply means, they do not trust their own developers and - additionally - there are obviously old bugs solved in 18.4 reappearing in this beta.

You do realize this is a beta 1 yes? And apparently forked from an older version of 18.4 based on the older carrier and modem firmware's. Trust their developers? Huh? Most beta 1's never go to the public channel.

By reading in this subforum and many other threads about bugs in iOS 18?
Take a look around!
I’ve read every post in 18.4 & 18.5b1, and no serious bugs reported. On the contrary, 18.4 has been reported to be most smoother and stable version of iOS 18.

I won’t go through the entire beta 1 release history, but public betas typically come a week after the dev beta. Beta 2 and later, they usually release within the same week.

Decided to start fresh with 18.4 and apart from an occasional glitch or two it’s been smooth and flawless on my 13P.

Using on a 16 PM, I'm having Mail (iCloud) notification issues again on this beta. Sometimes I get the sound and badge and other times I have to open mail for it to show. Can also show up with notifications anywhere from 2-10 minutes after I get notified on other devices. Also having micro stutters and slow animations when opening/closing apps and unlocking phone.

16 PM was stuttering quite a bit when closing apps on 18.4, decided to upgrade to 18.5 on IPSW and it seems a bit better. Hoping this continues to improve with each beta.

Is the follow button when looking up sports in Safari new? Not a 76ers fan, just an example.

Not sure how new this is, but in Maps, changing my "Sort" choices for listing in my Guides doesn't change the order. Sorting by Name or Distance doesn't affect anything, and they're not alphabetical and in very random distance-order.

Anyone else having issues with Apple Music under the initial iOS 18.5 beta? I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max and if I play a song while connected to a bluetooth speaker or third-party earbuds, then try to manually change to another song from a different album, the song won't play until I quit Apple Music and reload the app. It looks like the song is playing, but I don't hear anything. Works fine with my AirPods Pro. Also, I've noticed the camera on my iPhone seems to have issues focusing properly when scanning barcodes in apps, like with the Sam's Club app's Scan & Go feature. It used to scan the barcodes quickly, now I have to move the camera in and out to get it to focus and scan. No deal breakers here, but I just wondered if anyone else was experiencing the same issues.
