Very quiet in this iOS 18 forum! iOS 26 taking all the limelight 😃

I don’t even think I’m going to jump on the iOS 26 beta train when the public beta drops. Anyone else?

This RC seems pretty solid to me and I’m very happy so far with overall performance and battery life.

Please pin this topic. Thank you 👍🏻

I’ve got a 13pro, there hasn’t been much reason for me to be excited about the updates🥱

On my iPhone 11 I installed 18.6 b4 after 18.6 b3. There are no changes for the worse or for the better. Battery consumption during operation has not changed.

Same here. My 15PM is getting excellent battery life since I moved from 18.5 to 18.6 beta 2, and possibly better yet since installing the 18.6 RC. Not bad for a nearly 2-year-old device.

For past major new versions of iOS, I've waited until public beta 3, usually in early to mid-August before jumping in. But I'm enjoying excellent performance and battery life on 18.6 which will be hard to say goodbye to.

People are excited about the iOS 26 betas but I am excited about this. Stable, rock solid software is underrated. I am thrilled iOS 18 can now be considered stable.
Bingo! I love how everything works and far better battery life. After a few years of unstable betas and iOS’ that didn’t offer everything I wanted, this package is a nice reprieve and I’ll savor it for a while.

I was a bit disappointed with my 16 Pro battery life on betas 2 & 3, but this RC has made a difference and is draining less! Performance is top notch.

The question is how long can I resist public beta of iOS 26 once it drops lol reading the iOS 26 forum then I’m not ready to take the risk and *may* wait until the public release.

Same. 26 seems to be really buggy and not sure I like the “glassyness”. Clear controls just seem off for me from a user prospective. I don’t need to see my background when trying to control something, I need to see the controls. 18.6 running great. Not sure there is enough in 26 for me to deal with the bugginess or “glassware” as of yet. If it we’re truly like visionOS and the VisionPro 3d interface maybe but not sure it is there on iPhone.

So...how long can we stay on ios18 for when ios26 is officially out in September? Deactivate (automatic) updates of course. But how long can we keep using ios18?

It might even be something people clamor for when iOS 26 presents itself with separate issues / too many changes sorta thing :D

Stranger things have happened

Hint: I'm still rocking 17.7.2.
If you want, you can stay on 18 until there is an app, you need, that's not working anymore on 18.
BTW: You have to ignore the fearmongering regarding not timely updating though... ;)

[edit] I'm on the fence for 18.6, but only because I don't fancy 26... 🤔

I'm also tempted to upgrade to iOS 18.6 from iOS 17.7

The iPhone 11 Pro Max that I bought pre-owned was already on iOS 17.7 while the last time I tested iOS 18.0 was on iPhone 13 Pro then I downgraded back to iOS 17.7 when it was still available. I also downgraded from iPhone 13 Pro to iPhone 11 Pro Max and I'm thinking of doing an iPSW upgrade either this week or next week. I'm thinking of waiting until iOS 18.7 but iOS 18.6 is almost here so I might go with that first.

Just curious...what are the biggest benefits of 17.7 compared to 18?
This is only my personal point of view:

I had a long rough ride on 17 until i was satisfied with its performance - so i don't want to risk changing that!
I really don't like the changes of photos and mail in 18 (that where somehow reversed in 26 though!)

BUT when 26 is finally productive, there is no way back to iOS 18 anymore, so i start to consider upgrading to iOS 18 before the door shuts and there is only 26 left as a "choice"!

Thanks for that. And yes makes sense I guess for yourself to update to 18. For what it's worth...it's been running like a dream on my 15Pro.
