In 18.6 I have an issue with the Mail app that I've never run into before--
With multiple mail accounts in the Mail app (for example, iCloud and Gmail), if I go to the combined "All Inboxes" inbox and swipe down for a manual refresh, the circular loading animation at the top of the screen never finishes. Just keeps running in a loop

So...how long can we stay on ios18 for when ios26 is officially out in September? Deactivate (automatic) updates of course. But how long can we keep using ios18?
As long as you want. I’m still on 16.7.2 on my 14 pro. No problems. No bugs. Great battery life. I’ll only update if I have an app that absolutely forces me to do it.

Just curious...what are the biggest benefits of 17.7 compared to 18?
The biggest ones are usually battery life and speed. I used to use 1 version behind as well. But I updated to ios 18 due to it gives much better “autocorrection” feature (smarter and can do bilingual) than ios 17.

The problem with this is by the time an app is unsupported you’d end up having to jump a few versions instead of the next iteration. You could end up with a much slower device.

This is only my personal point of view:

I had a long rough ride on 17 until i was satisfied with its performance - so i don't want to risk changing that!
I really don't like the changes of photos and mail in 18 (that where somehow reversed in 26 though!)

BUT when 26 is finally productive, there is no way back to iOS 18 anymore, so i start to consider upgrading to iOS 18 before the door shuts and there is only 26 left as a "choice"!
iPadOS yes, major changes from productivity pov. But unsure for iPhone.

Right. I’m aware of this. 😬 That why I’ve been watching the iOS 18 reports on here. I just might take the plunge when 18.6 comes out because it should finally be polished enough and I could hang on to it for a few more years of support vs iOS 16. It will be a sad day though! I’ve used my wife’s 14 pro which is on the current 18.5 and it’s mostly fine but it is slightly slower compared to iOS 16. Of course she doesn’t notice it or care but it’s just a fact that the crispiest fastest performance is always achieved on the first iOS your phone comes with.

I’ve been using iPhones since the iPhone 4 and multiple iOS updates and from my experience this has always been the case and it’s ok. I get that things get more complicated and the software grows and requires faster processors and more ram. Apple does the best it can with the older devices but it’s always going to give its best to the brand new iPhone that is currently out. My 14 pro on iOS 16 reminds me of how perfect my iPhone 5 felt on iOS 6. The phone felt overpowered for the software. Now we are a few updates in and that crispy performance feeling is starting to fade. And same went for my iPhone 7 on iOS 10. I’ve always regretted jumping off of the original version my phone came with.

Honestly considering all the features you will gain with the jump from iOS 16 to iOS 18, and how new is iOS 26, I think iOS 18.6 is the right moment to take the plunge. Who knows how long will it take Apple to refine the new iOS user interface… iOS 18 offers a good balance of new features and customization along with the responsiveness of a well tested design. Good luck!

Exactly. It would be nice to have the messsages by satellite and the RCS features. Nothing much else excites me. I’m just turning into and old man where when I get something that works great I just don’t want to mess with it. I was always the guy going around the house asking if everyone had updated their phones to the new version yet and I was trying the betas too! :D I just get annoyed with all the bloat that comes with the new versions of stuff I never use and having to go in and turn off a bunch of new stuff. Dark mode icons will be nice with my wallpaper though. Been using the same wallpaper that I had with my iPhone 7!!

Did IPSW update to RC on 16 Pro without beta profile. Got Verizon 64.0.1 for carrier version.

I installed RC on my iPhone 11. I have dual sim( one physical and one esim). Now after the rc update, I am not able to connect to both sim simultaneously. When I turn on one sim, other gets off automatically and both don’t seem to he stay active together. Is there any workaround? Or should I wait for official build of 18 or probably go for 26public beta now. I even checked with the sim carriers and both the sim are fine.

Have you tried to rollback to 18.5 to see if 18.6 is the culprit?

It was working fine on 18.5 earlier. It started only after 18.6rc. And anyway how to rollback? I dont want to format my phone.
Firstly, I don’t know how many times this needs to be said but why would you use a beta, even if it’s an RC, if you’re unfamiliar with how to downgrade without data loss?
If you’re not remotely tech savvy enough to lookup how to do basic troubleshooting then you shouldn’t be playing with any kind of beta on your daily driver.

Secondly, why are you looking into a downgrade without even trying a reset of network settings first? Or just deleting the eSIM and then adding back if you can?

Thirdly, your thought process of putting an even more experimental iOS 26 beta as a solution to your issue perplexes me. When you’re having an issue with a stable beta you don’t go mess around with an even more unstable beta.

You know, that's honestly what I'm contemplating doing. Just stay on 18.6 until I deem the new glass design refined enough, I guess. I feel like it's going to take more than this beta cycle to get it down.

installed iOS 18.6 RC (b4) the day it came out. Noticed by the next day I had better battery life than iOS 18.5 (which I was on before). Also, noticed the phone gets less warm than before too.

My only issue with this build is that mail hangs sometimes when I pull down from the main area to refresh mail. Minor issue, tried restarting and hard reboot, no dice. Other than that, I think this build is ready for public use. Likely jumping to iOS 26 beta train at the next cycle or two.

You know, someone else already complained about the Mail issue. As long as the push notifications work properly I’m fine with it.

By the way, what’s you iPhone model where your tested iOS 18.6?

I can second this. My 16 Pro isn’t getting as warm now since installing 18.6 RC, even when charging it feels cooler for whatever reason. Battery life much improved over the last few betas.
