I mean if two or more services needed access within a window of say 5 mins, both would still show a purple arrow as they both accessed the data but from the same pull since not much would change in the location in that tiny span.
Pulling data each time would be terrible logic.
Sorry if I missed it here, but what are your settings for those services. All on?

I disabled those two last night to see if it changes any functionality

Do you have an Apple Watch and use any of the workouts; walking, cycling, etc. they don’t work properly with the motion calibration and distance toggled off.
Just an fyi

Day 3 with the iPhone 16 Plus running iOS 18.1 RC.

Nothing is turned off—VPN (ShadowRocket) is running 24/7, even during the daily server resets that temporarily block access while I’m asleep and haven’t refreshed the nodes. Here are the latest stats from the last full charge:

  • Screen-on time (SOT): 315 minutes (hand-counted and calculated)
  • Total standby time (mostly on WiFi, with 2 hours on cellular and dual SIMs on auto 5G): 12 hours 36 minutes
  • Total power consumed: 46% (54% remaining)

Do you have Find My iPhone enabled? How about the secondary setting for find my, Find My Network?

Motion calibration is critical for proper step count tracking and as guruguy mentioned, proper Apple Watch workout tracking so best to leave that on

Hows the battery usage on 18.2 Beta 1?
I downloaded it last night around 9 PM using IPSW, so today is my first full day with it. For context, I have the iPhone 16 Pro, and I haven't had good battery life since the beginning.

This morning, I woke up at 4:15 AM with the phone at 95% due to the charge limit I set. By 7 AM, it dropped to 80%, and it continued to decrease from there. I hardly used it, only replying to messages. I finally plugged it in at 1:15 PM with 45% remaining. Overall, the battery life is slightly worse than I expected on day one, but it hasn't been great since day one.

Don’t have an AW anymore which is why I disabled it now. Will keep an eye out on missing functionality if any.

Your iPhone itself also tracks steps if you have Fitness tracking enabled under the Settings app, so your steps will not be counted properly if you have motion distance disabled under system services

Roughly 5% an hour does seem high for hardly using it. I would suggest a one day test of the system services as discussed the past couple of pages, just for ***** and giggles to see if it does make any difference. Let us know how it goes.

What other battery saving tips do you have?

Off the top of my head, none I can think of. I’m gonna do a test the next couple of days with all the system services toggled ON and see how much of a difference it makes.
Id love to hear the results you get so please report back in a few days. By the way, Would that include significant locations toggled on as well in addition to all the system services? Also, will you have find my iPhone AND find my network enabled during the test? Curious to find out how much of a different having find my iPhone has on battery life, Thanks

Significant locations yes. Find my iPhone is already on. Find my network?

Edit. I see what you mean, yes it’s already on along with send last location.

I think battery life on 18.1 RC is pretty decent on my 15PM. Today has been a light/mod usage day on mainly mobile data and I’m going to bed with over 50% charge left in it.

I’m also on 18.1 RC on my 15 Pro. I left home in the morning at 7:30AM with 100% and was at 27% by 3PM at which point I charged my 15 Pro back to about 95% before i left work

Yes I have Find My enabled and it would still appear as the major battery user even if the usage bar per hour during idle is now much shorter (comparing with iOS 18.1b6 or b7 you may see full light blue battery usage bars during sleep idle overnight).

Is this the battery life you would expect from the 15 Pro? It appears to be draining quite rapidly.

I use my iPhone quite heavily as you can see (YouTube, Facebook, email, instagram) and so the battery does drain quickly. If I just use the iPhone for basic things like calls and email I’m sure it would last all day

Oh yeah, true! Sorry missed the 11 hours of screen on time.

You’ve clocked up some screen time! The battery life on the 15 Pro was never great for me especially on a heavy usage day, I swapped mine for the Pro Max.

My usual screen time average is 6-7 hours and I can end the day with around 30%.

Not too bad numbers. Do you have AOD on, and do you use standby like during night?
