I was excited to be able to make custom home screens and move icons around… until I found out moving the icons is universal… what good is arranging them around a photo if they no longer apply when you swipe through your different home screen setups

Missed a golden opportunity to call this article:

The Ultimate Mega Ultra Max Pro Guide

iphone 13 mini is listed as one of the compatible phones, yet, i go to Software update, it offers only iOS 17.7. anyone know why that is??

EDIT: still weird but, at least after completing iOS 17.7 install, it then has the iOS 18 option. “3 hours remaining…” sheesh!

Figured they would break/change something. I used to just tap my home accessories to turn on and off in control center. Now I am stuck tapping and swiping up/down. Lame…
You have to specifically click the actual light symbol now in order to turn them off.

Why do they keep screwing with the photos app? Other things look cool.
When I finally upgrade to iOS 18, I hope I’m not disappointed with the new photos app. The one I use now has worked really well for me. Locking an app sounds like a feature I might use. I’ll probably wait until November or December when iOS 18.2 drops to make sure most of the kinks are fixed.

in the release notes, it said the voicemail is extended to support lang other than english, e.g. cantonese for china and hk. (https://www.apple.com/ios/feature-availability/#iphone-live-voicemail)

do you guys know how to set the voicemail, both the greeting and the transcript, to use other languages?

currently setting the region to US to get the voicemail option (slide switch in phone setting) available, but both greeting msg and the transcript are in english. if setting the region to other region, the voicemail option disappeared.

grad to hear you are happy with the photo app upgrade.

to me, it is the worst upgrade i ve ever seen since IOS13.

the grid view now looks boring as it shows squared thumbnails only. in previous ver, some of the photo thumbnails are shown bigger than the others, with some in zoomed in view. it looks more energetic.

the change that i could not understand is the relatively thick gap kept between photos in grid view, hence a lot of display estates is wasted. even unbelievable is the gap size remain the same when the row size changed from 3 photo to 5 photos, thus effectively 6 nos of gap space wasted, 4 between photos and 2 on both leftmost and rightmost.

So none of the more interesting new features are actually available. We need to wait some time in the fall or winter for them. Why does Apple always release software that isn't finished or ready. Why not just skip the September launches if the thousands of workers at Apple can't get their jobs done on time, and release the software at the end of the year?
the most disappointing IOS upgrade i ve ever seen since IOS13.

while it is given to understand the highlights of IOS18 is Apple Intelligence which has not been released (yet not much appealing features), the photo app upgrade is a total failure, incorporating UI updates but no real improvement in features.

while the friendliness of the UI updates is subjective, the new UI wastes a lot of display estates. there are relatively thick gap kept between photos in grid view, which looks ugly and useless!

Have a look under the control centre settings, I think you may have the "Access within apps" toggle off.
the control buttons on the new control centre look a lot smaller, thanks to the space kept both size.

IOS 18 introduces a lot of UI updates. did apple replace a whole team of UI designers?

the new UI looks boring and ugly and wastes a lot of display estates.

most of the options/albums etc are shown as a row of oval buttons, thick gaps are shown in between the photos in grid view, space kept on both sides on control centre.

what the actual design intent of the UI updates?

it's called agile software development. In other words - release software that is mostly working, but missing all the features.

I'd say iPhone Mirroring is a very interesting feature

Also, whether we like it or not, Apple has moved away from a single, complete release to a staggered release and there seem to be zero indications that this will change.

At the very least, a new OS needs to arrive with new iPhones to enable whatever new functionality they contain.

Good article. Will be updating my 15 Pro Max soon and cannot wait to try out all the changes.

I must say that I really like how clean the Settings app is now. And the fact I no longer have to do an impossible key combination dance to reboot my phone.

After upgrading to iOS 18, I noticed my iPad Pro M2 runs noticeably faster. Running Geekbench 6 confirmed this, showing a 5% improvement in both CPU and GPU performance.

The icon tinting looks really sick. It was long over due to give iOS a fresh look. I also like how you can choose to get rid of distracting stuff in Safari.
