That's nonsense. People are already straining their eyes from their ever-increasing time spent looking at screens every single day.

Darker colors means less bright light hitting your eyes and therefore a little less straining. Especially true on OLED displays.

And if it's a fact that most are on Light Mode then it's only because most people don't know how to change the setting.

While I love the graphic and the general sentiment, as someone who has been using computers at a pre-teen in the 80's, as I age I also prefer screenshots in light mode over dark mode. If I am viewing my computer at night, dark mode all the way as your eyes take longer and longer to dilate as you age so that is helpful. However, also with age, contrast matters more and more. A dark background with just white text...cool. A dark background that also contains colors? Most of the time it will be harder for someone with aging eyes to see due to a lack of contrast. If built for contrast then it shouldn't be a big deal, but then if you have expected a color set your whole life and then it changes to a different color set to be high contrast in dark mode, the mental effort to adjust to that, especially when older, is not worth it and you just prefer light mode.

When I was a decade+ younger, all I wanted to see was dark mode....all day every day. Now as I deal more and more with Presbyopia, all things aren't as they were

I don’t know, but I don’t think that’d be possible. Everything that uses FaceID or TouchID on iOS, when it fails, it relies on the passcode. That’s why it’s so important to keep that passcode secret.

It's a more user friendly but seems like less serious and secure than what Samsung has had for many years with the now called Secure Folder.

With Samsung it's more like a totally separate device inside a hidden and encrypted area.
You can have another copy of a messaging app that has totally different account and settings than the non private one.
It's closer to spy or something level stuff.

MacRumors, PLEASE stop using dark mode screenshots in your How To's. Most people use light mode and Dark Mode screenshots are harder for many to read. I've started going to 9to5Mac and iMore.com more often to read how to's because they use the screenshots with light mode.

Rather, I see this as useful for adding more security against phone snatching or other situations where someone might have your phone while unlocked, as much as you should proactively prevent that from happening.

In any case, your phone is your phone, and your data is your data. You ought to be able to defend your privacy. In a relationship, talking is the solution, not snooping.

It is not Apple’s or anyone else’s job to prevent someone else from cheating. It is their job to protect the privacy of their users and give users as many options as possible.

I have stolen device protection enabled and still get a passcode prompt after failed Face ID.

Hiding and locking apps—this feature was definitely designed by a cheater who wants to hide and lock hook-up apps.

I always find it strange that there are a good portion of people here that absolutely hate options and can't justify a feature if it doesn't benefit them.

Someday I hope Apple takes it a step further and allow for FaceID to quickly check before displaying sensitive notifications when the screen is already unlocked. I've gotten into the habit of enabling DND if I need to show someone something on my phone. Have had the message notification/preview embarrass me a few times along with Amazon saying my anti-chafing cream is on its way lol 🙈

This is great for those using Siri Shortcuts to create custom app icons. You can still get at your apps from the shortcut with your custom icon, but it removes the duplicate default app/icon from App Library views.
