My phone keeps kicking it back.

Update now. Click update now.

Kicks back to the option to “update now”

Edit. Apparently it was working correctly but not showing. Got a few seconds left. Weird.

Is it the same procedure as with the betas? Or it’s just like installing a final version IPSW? I’m asking this because I tried doing a Finder install/restore of the beta and I wasn’t able to. However I’ve performed many ”clean installs” in the past without issues…

Finder + option + click on check up for update.

Do any encrypted back up before hand.

Is not the huge RC file (likely to be around 6+GB for all) essentially the same as that IPSW file we would need to download? If so, perhaps it’s worth it to just try this big OTA first and, should things go wrong, go the IPSW route?

Your asking different questions, going off on a different route to the point I was messaging about.

I'm just saying it's a good time to do an IPSW update after all the buggy betas as we have the final build now. It's good maintenance for your phone to do a full reinstall of the iOS.

I am just wondering if an IPSW installation is in any way better than a “full-sized” OTA?

I never bothered, all this time.

It might be for someone having some odd issues?

I used to do IPSWs before, but this time round installed the RC OTA (as I had no issues with the previous beta) and will see how it all goes over the next few days. If I spot something strange, will install the IPSW over it, if not - happy iOS 18 days! 😉

I think so.
Countless times the IPSW install has cleared up annoying glitches or improved connectivity, seen better battery performance in the iOS after beta OTA installs. Something about the full reinstall process works wonders.

I'm probably going to downgrade from the 18.1 beta to the 18.0 RC because I might give into FOMO and preorder the 16 Pro Max. And I'll have to be on 18.0 to transfer everything. PSA to everyone btw.

It's a shame you can't download the restore images to the Files app on your iPhone. I wanted to download it to iCloud Drive from work so it would be ready when I got home.
