I think so.
Countless times the IPSW install has cleared up annoying glitches or improved connectivity, seen better battery performance in the iOS after beta OTA installs. Something about the full reinstall process works wonders.

Yes, I remember your affinity for ISPW installations towards the end of the beta cycles from previous years. šŸ˜‰

I have installed it OTA for now (my wife is occupying the MBP tonight) and will see how it goes over the next few days. If I spot something strange, will redo it with IPSW. šŸ–ļø

I'm probably going to downgrade from the 18.1 beta to the 18.0 RC because I might give into FOMO and preorder the 16 Pro Max. And I'll have to be on 18.0 to transfer everything. PSA to everyone btw.

Or you could also install the latest iOS 18.1 beta on your new iPhone and restore it from a backup?

It's a shame you can't download the restore images to the Files app on your iPhone. I wanted to download it to iCloud Drive from work so it would be ready when I got home.
Just wait until the iPhone 16 release and update to the 18.1 Beta during device setup.

Just FYI, for the 10, millionth time: if you are running a beta and you buy a new iPhone during the set up process for the phone before it starts loading everything it will ask you to upgrade to the beta. That will reduce having to have a two step process. Just roll with it.

Did it state if iPhone 15 range gets Apple intelligence features such as the smart photo removal of unwanted objects?

I prefer one of two options:

Every years, simply start over FRESH with the new iPhone. I make a list of the apps I'm *actually* using, and install all fresh and let the various clouds fill in the gaps. It's nice to start over once a year, gives me new perspective. It feels great to start over, on every device. Especially the Mac, as I have MUCH more opportunity to mess around all year and kinda NEED a fresh start again

Second, just get the new iPhone and get on the beta thread THEN restore your backup.. easy.

I much prefer the first option tho, but it takes time. I enjoy that time spent refreshing everything =)

I changed my mind anyway lol. iPhone 16 Pro Max is barely an upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I donā€™t know why I was considering it in the first place.

I might get the Apple Watch Series 10 though.

I'm most excited about the hearing profile setup of the AirPod Pro 2, out of all the announcements! AI doesn't count, as that was all already detailed previously.. =)

Itā€™s not a must do. And if you have nothing wrong with your device as far as you can tell, just it feels good and have noticed positive effects from doing so at the end of a cycle. Bit if a spring clean shall we say. Before the next beta bashing Wednesday maybe for 18.1.

iPhone 16
I wonder if itā€™s chance/first come first served on Friday?

Just all the pre-order-ordering, maybe saves you a slot/unit, then literally you just pay. šŸ¤·šŸ½

I don't think the pre-pre-order reserves a slot, it just means the options are pre-selected when you place the order and so get to the payment page faster,

Basically this, it gets you to paying faster and it takes pressure off Apple's servers. You are doing less clicks and hitting less pages. They just get you through checkout faster basically.

Back on topic, surprised a new beta of 18.1 wasn't realeased. With all of the AI discussion, I kinda of felt like that would be coming yesterday.

I do wonder if the iOS 18.1 betas will drop for non compatible Apple Intelligence devices with the next beta?

Yes, it would make total sense to ā€œblendā€ them, as people with AI compatible hardware still need to download the stuff separately from the core iOS 18 anyway. So the next iOS 18.1 beta could be based on 18.0 RC with additional AI bits.

The servers were slow as it was, without adding that to the mix. And releasing a 4th beta of software virtually no one is using yet (remember itā€™s developer only at this point) wasnā€™t going to move the needle on excitement for Apple Intelligence.

Now we get to what is one of my most favorite parts of the iOS cycle: the eager anticipation for apps released using the new iOS 18 APIs. They will start showing up in the next day or so.

Control center goodness ahead!

You would think if the AI hype marketing was working really well it would have least been mentioned during Mondays event?

However, given the ā€œApple Intelligenceā€ highlights the company previewed in June and officially rolled out Monday, investors and customers alike may want to temper their expectations. Even Apple seemed to hedge a bit: It never mentioned the words ā€œartificial intelligence.ā€
To be clear: ā€œApple Intelligenceā€ is Appleā€™s proprietary AI. But Apple ā€” the most brand-conscious company on the planet ā€” understands something that often gets lost in the bot-pilled bubble of Silicon Valley: Regular people donā€™t trust AI.
Over the summer, a study published in the Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management found that describing a product as ā€œAI-poweredā€ tends to lower a customerā€™s intention to buy it.
So while Apple tries to use AI to motivate iPhone 16 sales earlier, curiously it was MIA when it came to the event directed to consumers? :D

Am I missing something? Tim Cook said the words ā€œartificial intelligenceā€ in the first minute of his intro. And they devoted a 5-7 minute segment with Craig Federighi speaking about it.
