At this point what’s stopping Apple from releasing the beta on Monday instead?

Obviously nothing.

The theory regarding a Friday release is (A) it explains the late release yesterday (vs waiting for today); (B) Apple is eager to get 18.1 on phones ASAP so their marketing can be accurate and (C) Apple really wants to get 18.2 out before the end of 2024.

Folks on 18.1 beta 5 are still experiencing it.... Apple has to release a fix for them

Apple’s not likely to accelerate a beta simply to fix a problem on an earlier beta

Is it correct to state that Apple have had more frequent releases of the 18.1 betas, of course motivated by the promises of new AI? And if yes, at normal frequency where would the betas be at today, still b5?

According to ChatGPT, these are the instances Friday betas have happened.

1. iOS 9 beta 3 – Released on Friday, July 10, 2015.

• This was an unusual release as it was timed before the weekend, possibly to push a new feature or fix issues before a developer conference the following week.

2. iOS 7 beta 6 – Released on Friday, August 15, 2013.

• Apple pushed this release earlier than expected to address a critical issue.

3. iOS 12.4 developer beta 6 – Released on Friday, July 12, 2019.

• This was another example of a Friday release, although not common, likely to prepare for an imminent public release.
That's not a complete list. I remember they released iOS 12 beta 12 on a Friday after the previous beta expired and was spamming users with popups to update. Friday releases do happen, they're just pretty rare.

Not really following here …

Yes sorry, at some point it was weekly releases of the 18.1 betas if I understand it right? Didn’t follow it closely in the beginning but saw it was stated by someone. If so, Apple might slow off a bit now…? To assure quality here before RC?

Doesn’t work that way. Normally, they’ll go with 2 week intervals for the first several betas (how many depends on how many total betas there are). Then they’ll switch to 1 week intervals for the next few. The RC will usually also be at a week interval following the final beta.

Thanks for forking that out, got ya’! Know it’s probably not a popular opinion, but it looks like Apple are in a jam and really prioritised the 18.0 fix and got it out finally yesterday. Which probably means we can expect 18.1 b6 to be ready next week, they know they can’t mess this up, Q first.

It will be whatever it is. My point is that there are some signs pointing to an unusual Friday release. I’d still rate it at only a 35-40% probability but it’s definitely not zero.

Hoping we get Mail categorization or at least contact photos with the next 18.1 beta, but much more likely 18.2 I'm thinking (and reading). I'd be happy to switch from Spark and use a native iOS app again.

Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be getting any features that aren’t already in 18.1 presently. But I also don’t think we have long to wait for the first 18.2 beta either.
