Gurman being very cagey about the phone requirement:

It's doubtful he knows that much. He likely doesn't want to be caught in something that could possibly be used to disprove his rumors. :D

Gee three more days at this point in time to the iOS 18 beta.

He’s already exposed. He published his info this morning in Bloomberg. Not sure why he’d make a statement like that (indicating that most existing phones won’t be able to use this much anticipated feature set) unless he was certain.

I suppose one possibility is that this was another Apple “leaker-burn” op and this was deliberate misinformation provided to him.

Back on the Gurman rumors. On re-reading, I’m wondering if the Apple Intelligence features he says will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max might not be the entire AI suite but only the rumored Siri-related AI (the type that is supposed to allow you to interact directly with app features in-app).

It’s not super clear and, if it is what I am theorizing above, he could have done a much better job phrasing it. But he does protect sources so perhaps it’s intentionally vague.

Most likely keeping it vague on purpose. He doesn’t want to lose his sources. Do you blame him!

I don't have access to the article, is this tweet referring to something that's in it? I haven't seen anything about "confidential computing".

Hombre, Julio César! Well, I know this guy. He has a pretty cool podcast (in Spanish) about coding on Apple devices, but he sometimes goes a bit too far with his guesses… I don’t think he has insider information, HOWEVER what he says makes perfect sense. The common denominator is the 8GB of RAM.

So yeah, probably that’s the minimum requirement to have on-device AI features. But other devices will probably have access to this features via cloud computing.

Possibly. If I recall correctly, the article from this morning did not use the term “confidential computing”. And I can’t check it because apparently it’s been pulled.

Perhaps a bit too much leaking there for a certain fruit company’s liking.

That might explain why Gurman has refused to elaborate on X and in his own Discord. A nice Cease and Desist letter!

Isn’t his section published on Bloomberg on Sundays? Maybe next Sunday we’ll get a final leak… but honesty, being so close, I don’t mind if more info is leaked or not. I’ll watch the Keynote with full expectation.

I'm very excited for iOS 18...but I'm not trying to rush my weekend lol. Monday can wait as long as possible.

Same, this week went by SLOW, weekends fly by, but of course I’m busy this weekend so it’s gonna drag as well, hoping for a lot of good surprises come Monday.

Remember, every year, like clockwork, lots of the rumors turn out to be wrong, and there’s always at least a couple surprises. Hoping we haven’t heard it all already.

I have the whole article copied as plain text (for when I was summarizing it earlier). This was clearly intended to be the ultimate reveal.

Since the article is no longer online I will create a pdf and post for all to read later this evening.

Actually, if there’s a chance Bloomberg got a cease and desist notice for the contents of the article I’m not going to post it so MR doesn’t get one also. If anyone wants it, DM me.

I’m confused, this article is still up, or was there one I missed?

I mean, to each his own, but I use an iPad as my primary computer for professional graphic design, 3D modeling/sculpting, and all of my other “normal” workflows like document management. I don’t think that the iPad is over-specced/underserved by its software. I think iPadOS can improve in several areas, and I’m hoping it does, but I think it’s probably around 95% of the way there. I think even if the only improvements are the rumored AI-features and app refreshes, it would be a good update. But I’m pretty sure there will be more than that.

When the iPad has the capability for the Adobe CS, I’d then call it something for professional Graphic Design - being a creative myself, it’s still just a fun toy for a few design bits at the moment.

Yes, this makes sense, as Google set their ideal amount of RAM to run Gemini Nano at 12GB and will only be providing Gemini Nano developer version to run on the phones with 8GB of RAM:

My own link stopped working. Perhaps then they edited the article and gave it a new URL.

Side note: I had to edit this post to change the word“Pernod” to “perhaps” at the beginning of the second sentence. If there’s one thing — one thing!! — I hope this new tech can do is recognize that what I typed was far far more likely to be “perhaps” given the context than it was to be the rather obscure proper name “Pernod”.

Agree. I don’t even know what a penis is. See? Even my keyboard doesn’t recognize the word, I’ve tried two times with the Dante result (iOS 16 Kevlar)

I use the Affinity Suite for my work, and the iPad Affinity apps are at or very close to full feature parity with the desktop versions. If there are any missing features, they aren’t any that I’ve ever used or heard of. I understand many still use Adobe for Graphic Design work, and I totally understand why they go that route, but since I’m an independent designer, and not working for a studio, I decided to move my work to Affinity, because the value is amazing, the iPad apps are extremely good and feature-packed, and I don’t have to shell out for an expensive subscription, which makes my business more profitable. 👍🏻
