Would be cool if a lot of stuff was broken out into apps so they could possibly be updated on the fly as opposed to being tied to OS updates (Siri & Search, at least, IMO).
I would love an updatable Safari App to fix all the security holes that get discovered. But I understand other security flaws are on the system itself and they want us to update it altogether.

I can’t believe it. It’s already Friday, and WWDC is on Monday. YAY!

Really curious about the UI of the systems, to see to what extent we see a redesign or it’s just more customization on the Home Screen.

Can’t wait to wake up on monsunday morning to watch WWDC! IMG_3398.jpeg

We’ll see if Meta AI is reliable at predictions and probability scores. For what it’s worth, Copilot agreed with that assessment and gave me a probability score of 8-9. I’m skeptical, and I honestly keep going back and forth on whether I want this incorporated or not. What I definitely don’t want is rushed implementation that is a major security hole.

I really hope there’s a redesign especially the messages app. It’s so dated looking.
Especially when texting multiple
Pics. Hate that stack that you have to click to then click again to the photo. So many clicks. Just dump them in a carousel you can slide thru. Makes no sense.

There is a big batch of new rumors from Mark Gurman, including some you may not like (AI may only be available on 15Pro and higher). The latter strikes me as highly doubtful: If true, a huge swath of iPhone users will never see these features. I have a message in to Gurman on his Discord to see if he really meant "on device" processing is limited to the 15 Pro and higher. Big difference!

Yeah, I do find the latter doubtful, because otherwise, why would they add all of the server infrastructure for off-device AI processing if they were only going to limit all AI features to iPhone 15s? That doesn’t sound plausible to me, especially also considering all the research they’ve invested in to get “SLMs” (Small Language Models) running on lesser hardware.

Also, would you mind summarizing the new rumors in the article for those of us who don’t subscribe to Bloomberg? Are there any new rumors about iPadOS 18? I would really appreciate it if you wouldn’t mind. 👍🏻

Key Announcements Expected:

Key Takeaways from Gurman/Bloomberg (source https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024–06–07/apple-wwdc-2024-what-to-expect-ai-ipados-18-macos-15-siri-updates-more)

AI Capabilities

  • No whizbang features just broad-appeal ones
  • AI (“Apple Intelligence”) will be opt-in and need 15 Pro or later
  • AI will be powered by Apple’s own tech and will be both on device and cloud, depending on the complexity
  • Big push for summarization (articles, webpages, emails, messages, meeting notes)
  • Suggested replies (my comment: a la Google and Spark, now)
  • Siri upgrades to allow the manipulation of individual features within apps. May not come til next year
  • Xcode getting code complete. It may not be feature-complete til next year, though.
  • Mail app getting a big upgrade, including categorizing incoming messages (my comment: Have had that on Gmail for 10 years)
  • AI created emoji
  • Voice memos getting transcription
  • Photos gets AI and will have “remove person or object” capabilities

Non-AI items

  • App icons can be located anywhere, not just snapped to the grid
  • Icons can be colored
  • Control center revamps with the ability to rearrange buttons and multiple pages. Music widget and updated Home interface
  • Improved settings app
  • Messages gets the text effects for individual words ( hope we also get rich text). Tapbacks can be with any emoji
  • Password becomes a standalone app
  • Calculator comes to iPad
  • Calendar updated to include reminders

Gurman is active in his Discord but has elected not to address my question about which devices. Makes me wonder if he is looking for some clarity on that from whoever his source is.

In that article, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I also saw scheduled message sending in iMessage.

Wow, having Siri Shorcuts on the Control Center, while the average Joe won’t probably know about it, it’s definitely going to make happy to all the geeks in the community!

If this actually happens, I think it would be one of the best features of iOS and iPadOS 18! Especially paired with the rumors of Shortcuts being able to leverage individual third-party app features, that could be a complete game changer! It would basically be my Control Center Applets concept I shared in here a ways back, but even better! 👍🏻

Also, on an unrelated note, but I know this is something you’re interested in, I asked both Meta AI and Copilot what probability score they would give to the possibility of the Files app gaining an Eject button to properly handle external drives configured with “High-Speed USB Mode” in iPadOS 18 on a scale from 1 to 10, and they both gave me an 8-9 score. 👍🏻. We’ll see how accurate these AI platforms are at predictions and probability scores based on current trends and data. 👍🏻

You mean like swiping thru pages left/right in the Control Center? That could be super useful if you could just have a page loaded with Shortcuts! ❤️

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. 👍🏻. Now, of course, it’s a rumor, so not guaranteed, but I think this makes a lot of sense, so I think it’s very likely. 👍🏻

I didn't like the iOS 10 Control Center that had multiple pages you had to swipe back and forth between. I hope it's better executed this time.
