I think another thing to potentially take into account is that the move to iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 could mean cutting off some devices due to compatibility. I agree somewhat that there’s definitely more to be had once 19 comes out, but there’s still plenty left for 18.4 and 18.5 on the current devices.

So about beta 2… I’m thinking next Monday or Tuesday? The fact that the public beta was released so quickly was a good sign.
Public beta with beta still showed AI versus iPhone Ram problems with older non AI capable phones because they selected 8 gb. This will come back and back again to bite Apple rather than using the cloud to reduce that. Beta 2 is WIP not guaranteed week next.

If you build it they will come.

Software drives hardware upgrades. Creates demand. And what does AI demand? Still unknown.

ChatGPT on iPhone 15 Max showing me that 8GB is not enough for basic conversations on topics. When will we see 12-16GB RAM? processing locally is best done when there is memory and storage to meets the demand.

What iPhone model is in the design stage currently? 19 or 20?
We still have to eat a few sandwiches and let it rain to see that!!! jajajajaja

We resolved our differences and moved on, why are you trying to bring it back up? And you’re coming off as very rude… 🙁
I take it he expressed more of a general comment. It has been quite some arguments going back, the last one was not the first.

Luckily things are not so serious here in general, just fun to share different speculations; high and low, half baked or thoughtful, logical or not, but for the fun of it. At least it used to be a fun, entertaining and sometimes interesting thread. We don’t have to hammer our ideas on to others imho.

Let’s have fun speculating again! 😀

Going to stick my neck out and say we get b2 tomorrow ⚡️

I'm sticking with my guess of a 18.5 beta before the end of 18.4 testing, maybe 3rd week of March. Most of the issues will be worked out of 18.4 by then, just polishing it and preparing for the Spring Product Event in April. That would give 18.5 at least 5-6 betas before mid-May, which is when I speculate the RC will drop.

They did exactly that with 18.0 beta and 18.1 beta (the first major Apple Intelligence beta). 18.5 promises to be just as big a jump in AI, so it would make sense to me.
That was unusual because Apple had a AI capable OS and one for iPhones that weren’t instead of universal. Guess it was the first example of how awful this AI feature set implementation was at its christening.

I don’t think it was a matter of having two OSes with one for non-AI phones and the other for AI ones. Because, if I recall correctly, you could run those betas on non-Apple Intelligence supported devices as well, you just obviously couldn’t access the Apple Intelligence features. I believe most of the reporting about it at the time was saying they did that to get more time to work out the bugs in the AI features with beta tester input. But I agree with you, I don’t think they’re going to do that again now. 👍🏻

Nope a iPhone 14 Pro ran only on 18.0 not 18.1. It wasn’t until the first beta of 18.2 that it went universal. That’s because it had 6 gb ram and was locked out of 18.1. Too many here were using iPhone 15 pro or newer wouldn’t know that. :p

I actually think it’s very possible Apple starts seeding 18.5 in the middle of the 18.4 cycle. The new Apple Intelligence features are going to rely heavily on developer APIs, and Apple’s going to want 18.5 out as soon as possible so developers can make those changes and put all their energy into preparing for iOS 19.

Now I guess they have enough time to make these changes before WWDC if they wait until April to start the testing, but it would be cutting it close.

Yes, but this “speculation” makes zero sense and isn’t evidence based. It would be like me “speculating” that a future iOS 18 update will remove the ability to customize the Home Screen… It just makes no sense, and nobody with any reputable track record is indicating such a thing will happen. Even Gurman isn’t claiming that…
Wait.... So are you now saying Gurman IS reputable now? I'm confused. :)

Not a chance. It’s not a seeding of current cycle and what’s next, accept when wwdc comes around. ;)
