You think we are on a 2 week cycle? The beta 1 seems quite stable on the iPhone, but a little bit messy on macOS, especially the Mail sorting features. Can’t say much about the new Siri voices.
Oh yeah, mail is kinda buggy. Sometimes, if you’re going through emails in a grouped sender and start deleting them one at a time, you end up with a bunch of empty space below. And then you can swipe that empty space to delete lol. Definitely needs some tweaking

But you know what’s interesting? Apple never said all the features would be coming with iOS 18. They just said they would be coming over the course of the year, so it wouldn’t even technically be pushed back because they never promised it on iOS 18 publicly. Maybe internal plans have changed, but that’s just based on assumptions and rumors.
The year is applicable from wwdc time point only. iOS 19 stuff is not part of this

So it’s illogical to believe Apple will release the features they announced for iOS 18 in iOS 18? Absolutely nobody including Gurman is claiming Apple will push back the promised Siri enhancements and Apple Intelligence features to iOS 19. There is absolutely zero reason to believe they would do that…
Again heed your own words. Apple has yet to promise that these enhanced Siri features are coming in iOS 18. You have taken Apple demoing them at WWDC as them promising that they will come in iOS 18. That in fact is not a promise.

MKBHD always cautions about buying tech based on the promise of future software updates… I don’t know what will happen, but my philosophy is expect the worst and hope for the best.

Yep, I follow that logic to a tee. I don't take Apple demoing features as a promise of said feature being added by a specific time. Airpower comes to mind as a demoed hardware item that never came to reality because they couldn't ever workout all the problems. If Apple can't figure out all the rumored issues they are having with the on screen awareness soon, the likelihood of it coming in iOS 18 gets a lot smaller.

If you build it they will come.

Software drives hardware upgrades. Creates demand. And what does AI demand? Still unknown.

ChatGPT on iPhone 15 Max showing me that 8GB is not enough for basic conversations on topics. When will we see 12-16GB RAM? processing locally is best done when there is memory and storage to meets the demand.

What iPhone model is in the design stage currently? 19 or 20?

I do think the features will come to 18.5 because there’s been reports saying that. But 18.4 is coming in April, so 18.5 will probably be released in June at the earliest. At that point, most of us will be on the iOS 19 beta anyway lol.

Exactly. These are the headlining features of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, etc. When Apple announces things at WWDC, the idea is it’s coming within that update cycle, not next WWDC…

So you think it’s more likely that Apple would drop these features in iOS 19 rather than 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc.? This just doesn’t make any sense. I have used logic and reason to recognize that when Apple announces things at WWDC, they’re intended for release in that software cycle, not at next WWDC. The possibility of that happening are practically non-existent…

If you believe the features will come in 18.5, why the long argument when I point out it’s far more likely they’ll drop in 18.5 and there’s practically zero chance they would drop in 19? I really don’t get this…

Maybe that's their original intent, but this time i - personally - won't bet a single penny on that.

There’s always 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc. Plenty of time to incorporate these things in 18 yet… It wouldn’t make sense to move them to 19 since we’re still most of a year away from 19 being available to the public. Are they going to be twiddling their thumbs that whole time? I think not…

Because even though I have an idea of what’s most likely, I still like to keep my expectations low in case something goes wrong. And especially if Apple doesn’t give a release date, I err on the side of caution.

We goofed. Under estimated the complexity. But we'll never admit that. Or that it doesn't run well on current hardware (iPad Pro M4 being exception maybe)

What the heck, so now we just assume Apple will push back the headlining features of iOS 18 etc. because what, they didn’t deliver them in the first beta of 18.4? This makes absolutely no sense. Everyone with any cred on this is reporting they will come in a later 18.4 beta or 18.5, and there’s practically zero chance the biggest iOS 18 features get pushed to 19. Apple couldn’t afford the media flogging that would come afterwards. They’re already viewed as behind in the AI race. Even if we assume they didn’t technically promise Apple Intelligence and Siri enhancements for this software cycle (they billed them as coming in the software cycle at WWDC), the public isn’t going to see it that way. There brand new Apple Intelligence system would get really bad press in it’s early days, not exactly good.

There is absolutely zero reason to think these features will be pushed back to 19. No one with any cred on this is saying so, there’s no imminent evidence pointing to this, it’s like people are just coming up with this off the top of their head. It just makes zero sense…

You can keep whatever expectations you wish, but making this into a long back and forth doesn’t make any sense. I simply said that I think it’s far more likely these things will come in a later 18.4 beta or 18.5, or even a later 18 update then waiting till iOS 19. Why not just say something like: “yeah, I agree, but I like to keep my expectations low”? Why make this a back and forth on this issue. I really just don’t get it…

Funny thing is I never once said what I think. I am just cautioning you against speaking in facts that are clearly just your speculation. You receive a lot of push back on your posts here, and this is a big reason why. I will leave it at that.

You can speculate all you want, but others can too. Try and respect their opinions too. Not everyone is here for an argument. Maybe some people just want to chat with others and bounce their ideas about iOS 18 off other members here.

I never said my opinions are facts. Where did I “speak in facts” things that are my speculations? Even with the idea of things being pushed back to iOS 19, I have repeatedly said there’s “practically zero chance of that” not that it’s completely impossible, just so unlikely based on the evidence that I don’t think there’s any reason to believe that’s the likely outcome…

If you’ve actually read any of my comments, then you’d know that I do respect other’s opinions. Just because I state disagreement and cite my reasons for why I disagree doesn’t mean I don’t respect their opinion… It simply means i disagree. And is angry reacting someone’s comment that a new beta could drop showing your respect for their opinion? Perhaps heed your own words…

The delay, 18.4 just kicking off, April time point, all contributing to this misguided impression that is the end of 18.x evolution before iOS 19 is published in September. Just because the many months dev preview is public accessible 2 months later then June doesn’t constitute the 18.5 thru 18.7 coming June thru September is not going to happen as you pointed out. Some here should guard their speculative thoughts as they will loose the when is conventional Siri timing based on gurman comments after he readily admits he has no understanding os Apple OS’s.
