Since we are not getting eny exciting new features in this .4 beta, I'm pretty bummed :/ Considering getting of the beta train until .5 and by that time, it's probably best to just wait for the iOS19 beta. Well...

If 18.4 only added the option in Mail to return to your list of emails as opposed to just dropping you into the next email, I would still feel as excited as I am about it. Older devices like my iPhone 14 Pro Max won't see anything but additions like this, none of the Apple Intelligence. So, bring on the bug fixes!

Yeah I will probably wait until the RC to hop on 18.4.

I’ve been expecting this for weeks now and some people on here would argue with me acting like I’m saying crazy nonsense lol. I do honestly hate to say I told you so because I was excited for these features, but I told some of you so!

________

“Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”

And these features will still likely come in iOS 18, just a later version like 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc. Many of us have said the features might be delayed, that doesn’t mean they’ve been delayed to iOS 19…

I have had issues with Spotlight -MacOS, iOS iPadOS- for a long time- all of the above. It could not find any files, and Siri couldn't either. I discovered I had two document folders. One was local "/Users/user13/Documents" and the other was an iCloud Documents folder. The local folder has all the files, and the iCloud one was empty. I moved all the files to the iCloud documents folder, and now Spotlight sees, indexes, and searches them, and so does Siri. So now, Siri is smarter than I gave credit for in the past.

To those trying to claim that this means these features will be pushed back to iOS 19, it doesn’t mean that at all. Apple did not say “we’re postponing the features to iOS 19”. They said the features should drop sometime later this year. Most of this year will be iOS 18 updates, iOS 19 will drop in September. So these features are far more likely to drop in iOS 18.5, 18.6, 18.7, etc. than iOS 19… And nothing in the quote makes any kind of argument for the aforementioned features being delayed into iOS 19…

They said “the coming year”. That means next year.

It means up to 12 months from today IMO. Not a calendar year. There is hope it could be in the 19.0 or 19.1 beta cycle. Definitely no longer part of 18, as 18.5 would be GR around May-June when we are getting into iOS 19 betas anyway. Development on 18 will be done by then and it will just be bugfixes.

No it doesn’t. It means within a year from today. Which is mostly within the iOS 18 update cycle since we’re near the beginning of the year, and iOS 19 won’t be released until near the end of this year… Every single article that has referenced this has said the timeline Apple is talking about is this year, just later than expected…
