If we don’t get a new beta today

Each year I think that Beta 3 is still too early for a public beta. So I think they're doing the right thing by waiting for beta 4 (at least) to release the public one. I assume (and hope) we will see more design changes there, before it's released to the public. I like they're being more cautions.

Well, it still did not stop Apple from basing their PB1 on DB3 in previous years and those were not perfect either. Besides, I personally do not know anybody who runs public betas on their Apple devices, so it might be quite a small target group, I guess. The geeks go straight for free DBs nowadays.

However, the fact that Apple have not released it yet is probably a positive sign, as they must have received quite a bit of feedback on their previous betas, so hopefully trying to get it “right” now.

I haven’t had time to look, but what do the figma design files that just released look like, because I assume that’s how they want the final look.

Not sure if they show frosted or not

If I am understanding correctly they only show frosted glass 😳
Hope I am wrong and they will do it liquid glass like again like beta 1/2 !

Seeing this right now:
and to clarify for myself guys, is this really a hint at the final product in fall?
Hope not because liquid glass was way better and it would be another broken promise by them…

Usually the designs should be the source of truth and the implementation should be based on them.

It’s not impossible that something changes during the development process and then the designs get updated, although, even if this happens, is usually is a sign of bad processes. However, I think it’s acceptable given the redesign is a bigger piece of work that also needs to evolve based on user feedback.

So I wouldn’t read too much into it, but I wouldn’t expect something significantly different either.

Betas are subject to visual design changes. That wouldn’t be a “broken promise”. But I think they’re likely tweaking the visual design a little in response to user feedback. Which is a good thing. Though I think they could add accessibility settings or something to adjust the effect more.

Thanks for clarifying that to me 🙏
I mean we will get used to it, both, either liquid glass or frosted glass - but it would still be a shame if this gets released in this frosted glass look - they have to rename it then to fit the design the user is experiencing 🤣

„Just“ add a god damn slider so everyone can decide on his own, frosted or liquid 🙏🤣

I don’t appreciate the language, but I agree that it could be good if they added a slider in Settings or something. And I think they may end up doing that. But I wouldn’t expect it in the first few betas, maybe not even in the first public release. Just considering how long it took in the betas for iOS 18 to get dark mode app icons to appear in dark mode across the system in things like Settings, Share Sheet, etc., I’m guessing it may take a while for Apple to add something like that that could adjust the UI appearance across the entire system and within third party apps even.

I was going to come in here like "I wouldn't put too much stock in the figma resources, because you can't reproduce that glass effect in Figma, which is one of the differentiators for the new UI. So Apple approximated it with the old frosted/blur effects." But after investigating, no, actually, you can reproduce it in Figma with a brand-new "Glass" effect style that I have to imagine Apple and Figma worked on together. Super interesting.

Debating whether or not I would even bother installing db4, when db3 is so relatively trouble free by this point. Not so much that I am even worried about something breaking, I’m just not sure any improvement or newly added features would be worth the time taken to install (iOS 26 installs have been ~2hr productions up to this point)
