iOS 27 Speculation Thread

The RC would be released on the day of the Fall Event and iPhone Announcement.. It's still possible we see one more beta unless they plan on going two weeks on the last beta before RC.

Looking back at history since they switched to RC, we have never had two RCs for a x.0 release. It’s always been one and the longest period for a RC was 7 days. So my guess would be silence next week with a RC the afternoon of Sept 9 post event. I would guess public will be Monday Sept 14.

So why not:

Beta 8 on Monday, 31 Aug;
RC on Wednesday, 9 Sep;
iOS 27 Public on Monday, 14 Sep.

Why would we need “silence next week” then?

Another key factor is the current state of the beta; we're currently on an "a" build. From what I've read/heard, that means Apple thinks it's extremely close to done-done, if not already there. In theory, the only reason we would see another beta on Monday is if someone stumbles upon a real dealbreaker bug before the weekend is out.

Thus, if all goes well, the next drop should be the release candidate on Wednesday (9/2), and the final production release during or immediately following the September 9th event.

Exactly, that is pretty much how it played out last year. For iOS 26, the last beta was on 9/2, RC was 9/9, and public release was 9/15.

FWIW, the last three betas for iOS 26 (that spanned several weeks), were all 'a' builds. It's entirely possible to get another 'a' build/beta next week.

I think with most people expecting less new features and more "bug fixes" this year, there may be a quick turnaround on a 27.0.1 release. I don't think people will be rushing to update this year.

I've got an iPad Pro from 2018 running iPadOS 26, and the 27 betas haven't been available. I mean, because I follow tech news and know stuff, I know it won't be supported.. But for non-tech-savvy people that may also have the same iPad and NOT know, when iPadOS 27 comes out and it shows as up to date, people may not even realize they could also update their iPhone. Then maybe a day or two later when their iPhone does update overnight, they wonder what the heck happened and the complaints start rolling in.

And to be fair, I do believe a lot of any remaining issues (I'm still seeing a few issues) will be fixed pretty quick. Although nothing seems like a dealbreaker, I bet iOS 27.2 will run great! lol
