A car can be faster, but without enough fuel it won't take you anywhere  ram, is important, especially on a device you're going to multitask like the iPad on iOS4

That is true in a sense but it also depends on how the operating sytem uses that RAM. 1GB of RAM is not always better the 512GB of RAM (unless you have two systems identical in every way).

If iOS 4 for iPad will come in November, I'm really curious to hear from Steve Jobs what are the motivations that had taken so long to deliver the update.

If Jobs is going to come out in November simply saying "So.. iOS 4, now for iPad.. Folders and Multitasking.. The same fantastic experience as on the iPhone 4. I'm sure you're gonna love it".... I'm going to kill him!

I really expect some key features developed specifically for iPad, otherwise it will be absurd waiting months (even November!) just for a bigger copy of the iOS 4 for the iPhone.

I tend to think that Apple screwed up the iPad. 256MB is clearly not enough for the iPad, and the delay is probably due to optimizing it as best they can for iOS 4. I know the 3GS can multitask etc, but it also has less than a quarter of the resolution etc etc.

In any case, I expect an iOS 4 experience similar to iOS 4 on the smaller iDevices, but that's about it. Nothing special.

Which is sad, and I hope I'm wrong. But I'm also realistic about this...

You don't think Apple's been planning iOS 4 for a while now? They didn't just release the iPad with that amount of RAM and then go ahead and develop the multitasking.

It's been in development long before either the iPhone 4 or iPad were released, you should have a little more faith they know what they're doing rather than act like the iPad will be incapable of any powerful multitasking. Apple is not short sighted, they knew 256MB would be enough and I'm betting you we won't have any problem when iOS 4 ships - it's been stated the added RAM in the iPhone 4 is to accomodate the new camera infrastructure and, consequently, the resource-heavy iMovie. We have neither of those on iPad, nor are we going to until Apple refreshes the device. It's not the best justification for giving us less RAM, but it's a valid reason nonetheless.
