iOS 4 for iPad seems like a Myth!

This waiting is killing me. Am I the only one who feels like iOS 4 for iPad is just a mere myth. I know we aren't too much farther away now, but we haven't even seen a beta. Hope all this waiting means that Apple really has something in store for us.

Ohhh so u must be Jesus. I wasn't even trying to be funny. People post stupid stuff on here a lot anyway.Y'all got a long way to go if you want the stupid stuff to stop. I'm trying to make a point that usually we could find something semi concrete on the web somewhere about what Apple will offer. With iOS 4 for iPad, we have heard nothing at all. U can't even find an article or rumor about how it will be different from iOS 4 for iPhone. Therefore it feels like a Myth. Get the thongs out your a***s fellas.

Gentlemen.

It's not a myth, Apple told us iOS4 would be coming to the iPad. The reason it's taking longer is because Apple's iOS 4 iPhone and iPad team are completely different and don't really intertwine from what I've read.

Excuse my spelling fine sir. The two team thing is new to me. I hadn't heard that. I can understand how that would effect it's push to the iPad.

Basically the iPad was secured in a locked room with no blinds/etc and employee's had to scan in and it was bolted down to a table while iOS4 was being developed.

The team developing iOS4 had little to no idea about the iPad other then the engineers who were designing/CEO's/special people it up until the last minute. This is why iOS4 wasn't designed for the iPad and the teams were separate, to prevent leaks.

So basically they have to rebuild from scratch iOS4 and design it to comply with the iPad. (Hence new team.)

I've given up waiting for iOS4 for iPad. I'll just appraise it when it arrives.

It killed my 3G phone. Given the pad has less memory than the iP4 hopefully it doesn't slow it down too much.

Ya' reckon? It's not as though they re-invented the lightbulb with the iPad. It's just a larger iOS device (hence improving it's utility for lots of things). And don't forget that the iPad was beeing worked on when Apple decided lets jump on the smartphone market hand hence came the iPhone.

Makes sense.
 
But it runs the same hardware architecture (A4 CPU) and uses the same input interface, so unless they really designed iOS4 in a very stupid way, it should not be a complete re-build from scratch. That's just not how large enterprises go about developing software (ok some stupid ones do, but assume not Apple :D)

They can't just double up the screen size on everything. A LOT of apps need to be redone (look at how they redid the Calendar, for example).

It's all about resolution. The current multi-tasking wouldn't look as great on the iPad and would be a pain, so they will probably be implementing a different style based off the original.

Folders as well would need to be redone in a way that doesn't take up 40% of the screen when you open one folder.

Everything in iOS 4 was designed for a SMALL screen. So all the features/etc were made to fit a small screen and would look ugly as hell on a large screen.
 
You're right and I agree with you. But that's just presentation. In an entire OS, that is a very small part of the whole package. The core of the operating system is much more complex and in theory should run identically on the two boxes.

I'm not saying the graphical interface is a piece of cake and can be done in 5 minutes, but just that it is not the most complex of things in the context of the "big picture".

You're also right about your theory, but in practice as we've both realized it would look like rubbish.
 
now i don't know much about programming, but when introducing new graphical things to the os, don't you have to make them work with apps too? wouldn't that mean rejiggering all the apis to work on the ipad's scale?

what i'm really curious about is how folders will work on the big screen.
 
They already have said IOS 4 coming this Fall. It's still Summer, albeit getting towards it's twine, but still Summer nether the less.

So it's a month or two at the most away. So can we stop silly threads. :rolleyes:

From what I heard, Multi-tasking would be difficult, seeing as how the iPad has 256mb of RAM, and the iPhone 4 has more, it might not cope well.

I was wondering the same thing - does anyone know if it were technically doable (and usable) to cannabalise some of the memory as a cache to supplement the RAM? And could this be part of the reason for the delay in iOS4 for the iPad? Making multitasking function fluidly?
