Originally I got terrible battery life on my iPhone 4, but I ran it down to 0% then charged it up and restarted it (holding home and lock buttons) and it's currently on 7 hours 38 minutes usage with 1 day standby on 32%.

Mine's been much much better since installing 5.1

I get a good 2 days usage out of 1 charge, that's with internet use throughout the day, listening to music etc etc.

iOs 5.1 Sucks!

On iOS 5.01 my battery was OK for a day of normal use.
On iOS 5.1 I get +-8Hrs from a full charge... and I'm not even using my phone...

I took my phone off charge this morning at 6:30 when i switched my alarm off. Its now 11:15 and I haven't used my phone at all. It says my battery is at 44%.

On iPad 2, I see improvement in battery life.

Strange thing is that this improvement is even when having the GPS on all day! I am a developer, and I have made an application that uses tracking GPS.

On iOS 5.0.1, when the application was in front, I would get about 5 hours of battery life. With iOS 5.1, I get 8 with the GPS on and the application that uses it in the foreground.

For everyone thinking of asking yes, the tests conducted were not deliberate, as I had forgotten to close my application (it remains open in the background).

The battery life of iPhone 4S was great. But when I updated it o IOS 5.1, it is consuming more battery. In the period of 24 hours, my device installed with iOS 5.1 is consuming 70%-80% more battery than earlier. I am not getting why this thing is happening. Can anyone resolve my problem?

You used less than 20% battery per day before? Is it even worth having an iPhone?

Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

You're welcome.

Why would this help?

I've just done it so ill see what happens.

My battery since 5.1 is worse. Wasnt great for 5.0 etc either.

I listened to 2 hours of audio today with screen off whilst walking and i lost around 30%. Nothing else of any significance was running. Normally, when i first got phone, id think id have used 3-4% doing the same thing. :(

I hope im not speaking too soon, but this might have helped the massive drain i was experiencing.... the drain now seems more reasonable.

I don't often have my phone at home so airplane mode + Wi-Fi on and occasional use. And over night i didnt lose hardly any, which is what id expect.

Fingers crossed.

Excellent! I hope it continues to work better for you. Don't hesitate to do the same thing again if the problem recurs (usually doesn't but it can).

I had battery issues after upgrading to iOS 5.1 on my iPhone 4s. What finally solved the issue was to quit all applications.

Double click the home button to see the application list at the bottom
Touch the first application until you see the red circle close mark
Click the close badge until all applications are closed.

The only way we're going to get significantly better battery life out of iPhones is if Apple puts in higher capacity batteries.

I have updated to iOS 5.1 to both of my iPhones 3GS and 4S. The battery runs out very quick. Anyone has the same problem with me? Thinking of coming back to iOS 5.0.1 but don't know how. Comments, pls?

Yes my wife updated and her boss too now the phone gets hot just being on stand by and it goes from 100% to like 20% in 3 hrs of stand by without any use. Definitely and software bug in my opinion.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

On my backup iPhone 3GS which is 5.1, it has a even higher battery then my jailbroken one with battery stuff added to it. One has its ram free while the other one has nothing on it. My backup last like an hour longer

The only thing I can see that kills battery is push, there seems to be a bug with push not being able to idle properly.

Using netstat, I can see the push connection gets refreshed every so often, despite being idle

Without any push on my battery is really good though

No problems for me either with 5.1. Although I never had a battery issue before 5.1, but now my battery is definitely lasting longer. I find doing 3 complete charges and discharges after a software upgrade definitely helps too.

not cool

I have a 4s; bought it this January.

I've tried all these "tweaks"... turning off wi-fi, resetting, hard-rebooting, reloading the firmware, .etc, .etc. I had all the junk location services and push turned off before I loaded on 5.1. The percentage indicator now just counts down. With the same amount of use before, I could go the whole day and come back within the 80% area. Now when I come home, it's in the 20-30% range. I have to charge the phone everyday now.

My "s" now stands for sucks battery.

explain this... You are saying your top image is the 5.1, and the bottom is the 5.0.1? If the bottom image is your old OS, it still has 32% on it. Even though it shows less standby/usage time, it's got some 20% of battery left to go, vs. the 7% left on the new OS? Am I reading into this right?

I have the same problem as well. In two hours of usage and two hours of standby, I lose 50% battery on my iPhone 4. Is that in line with what it should be or is that unusual?

I am on 5.1 and my battery life I swear is far worse. Today I charged it this morning and at 8am it had 100% charge.

By 8pm this evening it had 1% left! I had used it according to the battery usage for 5 hours 36 minutes and it had been on standby just over 12 hours. Now that is poor in my opinion! Seriously I need to roll back to iOS 5.0.1! Lasted over 24 hours with the same usage!

Just went 6h 12m of usage, 1day, 1hr of standby on my Jailbroken iP4. I couldn't get a screenshot before it died at 1%. Now to tether again and charge it fully.
