I've been with the iPhone since 2009. I've had the 3G, 4 and now the 5. I've never liked being tied to one company, because I want to be able to use whatever service I want whenever I want and not feel like I am trapped in a particular ecosystem. But the iPhone really makes it hard to switch with its seamless operation and carryover of data from one generation to the next. That is why I had made up my mind to switch to the Nexus later this year and give Android a try. But now, with the spectacular introduction of iOS 7, I am not so sure anymore. It is great looking and adds a lot of missing functionality.

I am sure the longer I wait and the more I use iOS 7, the harder it gets to switch and I will just end up getting more and more integrated into the Apple world. I just want to try Android and see what I could be missing. Anybody else in the same boat? Is getting a Nexus phone and an iPad mini a good compromise - sort of like the best of both worlds?

I was wanting a larger screen recently and looked at the LG Optimus G Pro but iOS 7 has me questioning leaving the Apple ecosystem as well.

Quick settings was a huge hole they plugged up today (even better than Android does).

There's no wrong answer to this. In the end, it's really up to what you enjoy better.

Personally, I am a techie and love testing out the latest and greatest; including iOS 7. However, my HTC One is my daily driver and I absolutely love it. I also have an iMac and an iPad and have never felt the need to be in one ecosystem all boils down to your personal preferences.. Is that the same for everybody? Probably not-- so it

If you do decide to try a Nexus, you'll need to approach it with an open mind and actually spend some time getting accustomed to the OS. It's never going to be iOS, and unfortunately Android gets a lot of flack from people who try it for a day, and quickly dismiss it because it didn't feel like iOS-- of course it doesn't, it's a whole different operating system!

Anyhow, best of luck with your decision. If you've got the cash, why not give it a try? (FWIW, I was able to sell my 8 GB Nexus 4 for $280 not too long ago, so it holds its value pretty well IMO)

I know what you're saying and as others have stated it all depends on what you want. I think the changes made in ios 7 are great - really really needed and brings a fresh modern look to what was a very stale looking os. That said there is still too much for me in android that is not in ios that would prevent me from going back. Apple made a lot of changes to the UI (or UX) but that doesn't help me much in my day job. Android still gives me a lot more and also a lot less barriers that I still couldn't switch back.

My 0.2!

That depends on what you're referring to. Due to Android's open access to API's.. third party apps have quick settings too. Such as an app having a quick reply option in the notification tray, etc.

Tried Android after using the iPhone 5 glad I made the switch. Transition was nice and smooth. However, still using an iPad and will most likely purchase the latest version this fall. Don't have to choose between one OS or the other. Get to use both.

I'm sticking with iOS7, this is a great platform for the future and imagine how it will look on next generation devices, e.g. edge to edge screens, thinner etc, i think we haven't even seen how good this will look in the future, though I'm sure Ive has and I think he's designed it with that in mind.

yep

my devices are

Galaxy S4
Galaxy note 8.0
ipad 2
iphone 5 stuck in the draw as a backup option.

best of both worlds..
That either sounds like a huge waste of money or a bit of a fib. If I wasn't using my iPhone 5 I'd be getting the maximum amount of money for it right now. Its a bit of an extravagant back up, but each to their own.

There’s a reason for that you see, the power button doesn’t switch on and off more often than not no matter how much you press it.it won’t turn off. That why I havn’t sold it. What I need to do is ask Vodafone to see if they can get it fixed as my mobile contract is with them and thats how I got my iphone 5. I bought from S4 outright..

So surely I should be able to get Vodafone to change my iphone 5 for a new one..then I would sell it. However I’ve got pics and videos on the iphone 5 that i can’t transfer to my S4 which makes me think about not doing anything with it.

I still don't see all that much in iOS 7 that would keep me from getting an Android phone next. They just reskinned the UI (with terrible icons too) and added some stuff that was available jailbroken already. Still no file system etc.

I'm ok with iOS on my iPad but for my phone I'd like something a bit more versatile as it's my primary mobile device.

I have an iMac (at work), a 4S and the latest iPad (at work). I want to get a tablet for home, and I am going to wait to see what the next version of the iPad mini is before I make the choice between iOS, Android (proably not Windows). The Android tablets so far are much less expensive than iOS, which makes them very attractive....

Is there an Apple store near you? If you back it up and take it in, you should be able to walk out with a refurbished one that day. Going through Vodafone would be a nightmare considering its a hardware issue. The pictures and vids shouldn't be hard to back up on your PC, can you not transfer them this way?

I'm even worse, I have:

Nexus 4 16GB
iPhone 4S 16GB (work supplied)
Xperia S
Xperia TX
Xperia Z
Lumia 920
iPad 3 64GB 3G
Nexus 7 32GB 3G
HTC One X
HTC Incredible S

It's a sickness...I know.

I alternate through them when I get bored. Can't be bothered selling them.

If that's you hobby I have have no problem with that. I'm not that into phones to buy so many. One at a time is enough for me. I spend my disposable income on my interests like socialising with friends, playing sports like golf and go-karting and I'm sure many would say that's a waste of money. As I said though, each to their own. :)

I've tried but it appears they don't all come up for whatever reason...think going into apple is the best option yeah. Hopefully they would replace it..works fine apart from the power button.

got pics and videos of my dog as a puppy that i don't want to lose...

Yeah I would definitely take it into Apple and take in your laptop (if that is what you use) too as they'll overcome any issues. If there is one thing Apple are good at its technical support and customer service, well that's in my experience lol. Good luck with that anyway :)

I blow my money on tons of other crap too don't worry lol. I usually just don't sell stuff like phones as you don't get much back for them.

Typical Apple. Announce IOS 7. Give it to developers. Let the users wait 4 or 5 months to get it on our devices. I have no issue waiting for IOS 7 for my IPad, but am very satisfied using my HTC One now! Nothing much extremely exciting announced with IOS 7 yesterday. Loved the IPandora copy........

I really enjoy using both platforms, I have a SGS4, and a Nexus 4 that I have for backup and to gain early Android updates, on the Apple side I have a MBP and an absolutely superb iPad mini, using both platforms is very pleasing for me. My eyesight isn't the best in the world and I prefer the larger screens on the phones I currently have but fully accept that others prefer smaller. This is just my opinion, but I think that iOS 7 looks absolutely brilliant now, but if it was put on a larger iPhone (4.5" or even 5") then I would be hard pressed to not consider it as my next phone, I m really looking forward to putting iOS 7 on my iPad Mini. :)

or you make great money on them. I use my upgrade to get an iphone and then sell it new in the box for $600 the day it comes out. +$400 for no work is good to me and it saves someone else around $80
