I'm all for different themes. If you noticed when they display iOS 7 on the Apple Website, they never show a black phone. It just doesnt look as sexy as being on a white phone. Hopefully they are working on themes.

Hey! Give Apple some credit! They do show 1 black iPhone when they show the AirDrop feature...

Is it just me or does the white notification bubbles look really unfinished? Like a blueprint...anyone seen any good mockups for that?

That's why a simple option for the user would be more appropriate as most have mentioned.

You mean like all the theme options we got in 1-6?

Steve would never have allowed it. /s

Wait on 7.1. We will finally be able to customize. Lol. Wishful thinking.

Black is terrible on glossy touch screens. Mockups don't show the extreme visibility of fingerprint streaks compared to white interfaces.

Yeah but white allows shadows to be seen. Shadows from fingerprints and scratches on the screen's surface show 1mm below, under the glass. It's very distracting, IMO.

I made these mockups weeks ago to see what a black theme would look like. I think it looks pretty cool on the black phones, and yes, all the white doesn't look so good and the black phones. However, with a black phone, I don't think the mainly white UI is a problem when you're using it. When I use the device, I'm just looking at the screen, so it doesn't feel weird. I think iOS7 on the black phone is far less presentable in pictures because in pictures, you take in the whole image. In use, I think it's fine. Although maybe offering a black theme would help it not be so bright when you don't want it to be, and with the way iOS7 is designed, it would be incredibly easy for Apple to allow this. I think having a black theme like this feels a lot less inviting, and far more intimidating, so I don't see it happening. Nonetheless, here are the mockups:

Those look very nice! I hope Apple is paying attention :)

I honestly could really tolerate a black theme. I am not a fan of the flat design but the bleached out child-like look to everything is difficult to use. Atleast the black creates some contrast.

Well it would be interesting if Apple added some themes. Black would look awkward on a white phone almost like how white looks awkward on a black phone. Adding some choices would be nice and should be simple to implement.

I prefer a white screen when it's a really brightly lit area, but most of the time I think the current white screens are horribly bright, and would mostly run a black screen layout if I had the choice. I have not jailbroken for years, but if there is a jailbreak for iOS7, and some nice color themes I think I'll opt for that way to give the screen some character as opposed to a poor washed out look at the moment.

I love the UI when you go to the iTunes Store and go to the movies tab. I wish all of iOS 7 looked like this!

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

Kidding, but really, I would actually be able to stand iOS 7 if it looked like this. The least Apple could do is provide an option for it.

Heck, it would be nice if they offered dark/light customisation for the Mac as well, like being able to change the window borders, the menu bar and dock from light to dark, what with some of us having light bezels (Macbook Air, classic Macbook) and many more having black bezels (Macbook Pro, iMac, Apple monitors).

Steve would never have allowed it. /s
what does Steve have to do with it and what does the options being there or not in prior iOS versions have to do with discussing what would be good to have now that a number of things have changed?

I thought about this some more and decided that it would be very wise for Apple to include a dark theme. Not necessarily for aesthetics, but accessibility. Apple currently includes the invert colors option to help people who may find reading with white text on black easier. However, when people do want to use that option, the colors are all out of whack. This would not have been possible in prior versions because the interfaces were constructed out of bitmap images. Now, in iOS7, with solid color backgrounds, it would be very easy to implement this feature by really only needing to change black text white, and white backgrounds black (among other things, but the point is, it's very doable). It would give people who use the invert colors option are far better experience, tint colors would remain consistent, photographs would display properly, etc.

With that said, given Apple's commitment to accessibility, I'd be surprised if Apple doesn't do it.

lol, maybe something in between black and white...er, shades of grey? The predicament should not be this difficult to figure out...
