My IPhone 5S with beta 9.1 use battery almost as on ios8. Unless a version clearly drain the battery as some of the early 9 betas did, any claim of battery better or worse is worthless. Why, because battery is used for anything your device do. So to compare the case has to be the same, if you spend more time outside in the sun, the battery will behave differently as on default settings the backlight is adaptive, also if you spend your time more in another location both will affect your wifi and cellular reception which is also using power depending on quality of reception (even moving one meter is enough to drastically alter reception). I also imagine many are playing more with their devices after updating to a new version of iOS and usage is higher, hence also higher battery usage. Beta versions do also collect more data for evaluating the software. Of course some updated API's have better battery usage, but there might be some who have lesser, but do more "fancy" stuff.

My battery life was really bad on the last beta, but has been excellent on the GM. Actually everything about the GM has been great for me.

I can confirm normal battery life with the GM on my 5S too. After the horrible beta5 and a "Reset all settings".

Current battery stats: 43% Capacity, 3h usage, 29h standby.

Pretty good i believe.

That's pretty good. You are one of the few 5S owners that I've seen with reasonable battery life on the GM.

Let it run out of battery the first time in a few weeks. It showed 5h11min usage and 24h:33min standby on my last screenshot while still having 4%. I thought it would shutdown every second but I had to use it for at least another 40min watching YouTube and stuff to finally go down. To be fair, all this time I was at home on wifi. Could be better I guess.

I think mine is getting batter. 63% battery
Usage 2hr 10 min
Standby 16 hours

It's showing Facebook and Snapchat as background activity though even though I've got background app refresh off for everything.

I'm quite pleased with battery life on my iPhone 6, it's al least on par with iOS 8. I think I could've gotten 2 more hours with low power mode.

Complete clean install (restored while on DFU), no backup.

I'mrunning bare minimum system services, and have every battery saving option enabled. Been seeing 4-5 hours usage max on the betas, GM and now on 9.1 - and I'm not doing much. 100 or so messages throughout the day, email, an hour or so of safari use, 30-45min of streaming music and another hour or so of social media with the Paper app, and Instagram. Not complaining about battery life, as I'm almost always home by the time I need to plug in, but on heavy days where I need to make a few short calls, reply to a lot of messages and do some heavy lifting...I see drops of 1% per minute or every other minute at times. I've never seen more than 5 hours of usage on any OS or iPhone I've ever used. The iPad Air 2 on the other hand, I've seen two months of standby and almost 20hoursof usage at times.

I've been binge watching Season 1 of Narcos onNetflix all day. Haven't left the house, taken a call or really sent any messages. Just hit 15% and have 10 hours standby, 4hr 45min usage. Most is safari and social media. All Wi-Fi. Not terrible, but if I was on the go, the drain would have been much faster.

While the battery life on the GM has been frustratingly poor on my 5S, it's been awesome on my Air 2! Quite a bit better than any version of iOS 8. Performance has been stellar as well.

My iPhone 6's battery jumped from 33% to 17% then when I plugged it in, it jumped right back to 30%. I don't know if that's because of iOS 9 or not, but I've recalibrated the battery before this already.

Same problem with Facebook. Everything off but Facebook shows 45 min of background activity

It was mediocre at best, about the same if not slightly worse than 8.4.1. 9.1 beta has been better so for for me on my 6.

Terrible battery life with iPhone 6. There's possibly a bug causing battery drain on standby when there are apps open, even if background refresh is closed. I leave my phone on standby at 90%, in 2 hours it's down to 75% on its own. If I close down all apps and do the same, the battery drain is at most 1-2% in 2 hours.

And this is fresh OS 9 install with "set up as new phone".

In the past two days, WhatsApp has spent 11.1 hours running in the background. I think you found your battery culprit there!

Try turning off background app refresh for WhatsApp? Or just removing it temporarily to see if the problem goes away?
Since facebook bought whatsapp it keeps running in background, even if you have background app refresh disabled, only solution i found is Under privacy -> contact-> turn off Whatsapp. this helps with battery.

Gotta love how Facebook ruins everything they touch. They're kinda like the Oracle of the social media world.

If you can try to convince your friends to switch to Telegram. It is way better.

I updated my 6 plus to gm and i'm not getting good battery results compared to my wife's 6 plus on 8.4.

Mine - 19 hours standby - 6.40 hours of usage - 20% battery left
Wife - 24 hours standby - 4.30 hours of usage - 75% battery left!!!

I have a 5S and have noticed the same poor battery performance using iOS9. I did a fresh install of 9.1 then did a restore from my previous iTunes backup last night and noticed a massive improvement of my battery usage. Before with just 3 hrs of usage and/or standby I would be below 20% after a full battery charge. Now I'm seeing 97% after 3 hrs of usage/standby... much happier with this update so far...

Is it 3 hours of usage or 3 hours of standby. There's a good amount of difference between one and the other.

I realize there is a huge difference between usage hrs and standby hrs...

To clarify, I would say in a normal 3 hr period where there is moderate texting and maybe a phone call or two... what I consider normal usage. Not surfing the Internet using my iPhone.... anyway just observing my battery life under those conditions with iOS9 my battery would drain quickly. I was amazed by just how much. Looking at my apps, it was showing safari around 45% and messages being close to 60% with other apps like Waze being around 20%... with the software/firmware update messages now show up at 23% (still texting people normally), and Safari at 35%...battery level was at 75% this afternoon before I drove home.

I'm sure its too soon to determine usage but my initial feel is that the battery seems to last much longer than it did when I had iOS9 installed.

Hi all

Sorry for another battery thread!

Ive got iOS9 GM on my iPhone 6+ and the battery on the thing seems truly awful, it actually drains when its charging and I'm using it, i did a clean install of the GM and restored from iCloud backup - Just wondering if anyone else had had this type of issue?

Not too fussed as have ordered my 6s and hoping its just a dodgy install!

Cheers

I had both 9.0 GM and now 9.1 Beta. Both gave me 10-12 hours of battery like like 8.4.1 on my 6+

Apps are not instantly put in standby when leaving to the homescreen or another app and some of their tasks can run for up to 10 minutes! Only force-closing will stop that but isn't a good option as most of you might already know by now.

Edit: Facebook app is the only one where background time trumps used time. Last 24h 17min to 27min! Last 4 days 52min to 1,5hrs background activity! No background fetch. That's awful!
