iOS 9 battery life fix

Got this from the developer forums, and it has worked for me. Battery is almost as good as it was for me in 8.4. Not quite the same, but that should be expected given the new features and beta 1.

Credit to user Atomic Flip in the developer forums who posted the following:

"1. Completely disable iCloud Backups on each device running iOS 9 Beta 1 (Use iTunes to Backup and restore devices for now.)

2. Disable iClkoud drive (if you enabled it) on each device running Beta 1

There appears to be a SERIOUS problem with the API handling backups to iCloud or some sort of permissions issue with the data being written to iCloud. This likely went into effect during the update phase that indicated "iCloud data is being updated". (During the first Beta 1 load.)

This has confirmed to entirely resolve the "somewhat unpredictable" and extremely high rate of burn on the battery for this beta on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPadf Air 2. There is no reason to believe other affected devices will respond any differently to these changes, so we encourage other developers to try them asap. Apple should likely address this with the next update, when we can resume use of iCloud as normal during testing.

NOTE: iCloud data used by Third Party applications and other data like Calendar, Contacts and so on, does not appear to be causing any issues with battery usage, nor does there appear to be any data corruption. However do proceed with caution if you are using iCloud for your beta application development."

As I said, this has worked wonders for me. Hopefully it will help some here as well.

As I said, this has worked wonders for me. Hopefully it will help some here as well.

Thanks for the heads up. Beta 1 is driving me crazy with it's battery drain and I can't roll back because my watch is on 2.0.
 
I did have backup turned off as I didn't want my 8.3 backup overridden by iOS 9 but must admit I didn't try turning iCloud Drive off. Don't fancy upgrading again to find out it doesn't cure the fast battery drain.
 
Updates, on whether this helps or not would be sweet! This is the only thing keeping me wanting to downgrade back to 8.4 on my personal iPhone. Anyone know of a way to restore only text messages back to a fresh install. I've deleted my 8.4 backup on my mac by accident and kinda want to go back to 8.4. Too impatient to wait for Beta 2l
 
I am also interested in seeing if this works, I had the beta on my 6 Plus but couldn't handle the disastrous battery

My battery was low already, so now I'm just charging back to 100%. Will monitor afterwards and see how it does overnight. iCloud Drive and Backups are turned off.

Can confirm its working. My battery would drain 1 percent every 4 minutes if i was doing anything on it. (I.e Facebook, Twitter, light web browsing ) been using it for a few hours now and my battery is only down to 91 percent! Not a big deal as I didn't use either feature.

Did you have to turn off Search etc??

Also, did you do an upgrade or fresh install?
 
I have an iPhone 6 running this beta...the tips you mention above did not work for me, I have all the searches turned off also and I am still having massive battery drain. I was just reading the news for literally about 5min and I lost 8% battery
 
I don't know if it makes a difference or not but mine was a fresh install, not an upgrade
 
So far this hasn't done anything...battery still draining with normal use. Will watch it though. Collecting battery logs to report to Apple too
