iOS 9 is making me hate Apple

This is more of a hate time between iOS and watchOS. iOS 9 made my 6 plus slow to a halt. I used to think that having only a year old device wouldn't show any age but Apple sure showed other wise.

I now have a 6s plus and it too is slow with animations and such. Such a disgrace to have a month old phone already feel like a slug. We were promised with iOS 9 all these performance enhancements and such but yet iOS is here with lag, bugs, bugs that are worse after they patched them. Now I'm just stuck.

Another point here is watchOS. When I got my Apple Watch it felt fast enough. I had to wait for certain things but never too long. watchOS 2 comes along and the polish is gone. I think something didn't tap and it tapped twice and the UI switches twice after it catches up. It being a first gen product is not an excuse.

I now sit here on the fallen hopes iOS 9.2 beta where nothing is still fixed and more is broken. Same bugs reported still not fixed and same ones "fixed" are back.

TL;Dr I feel let down for paying this much for a quality experience but feel like I'm experiencing android 2.0


Edit: On another note, El Capitan has really improved my performance so kudos there.

I was there during that time and had each iPhone as they popped them out. But this is the first year that my year old/2 month old phone has slowed to a halt numerous times.

Why don't you just change to Android?. You won't get updates and can't complain the "new" version of Android is slower.

Problem solved.

Can't comment about the Apple Watch as I don't own one, but the animation issues with iOS 9 are entirely due to the blur effects. I don't know what Apple changed about them from iOS 8, but the blurring is incredibly inefficient now, and it needs to change.

OP I have a 6s plus and not experiencing what you are. Take an iTunes *and* iCloud backup, erase your phone (delete all content and settings) and don't do anything else. Are you still having the performance issues? If so, make a Genius appointment. If not, start putting your things back on one by one to see what causes the issues. It's a matter of trial and error mixed in with some detective work. Good luck!

I don't think it is the blurring, it's the coding behind it and Metal. Metal probably handles the blurring differently and things need to be tweaked so it works properly. It's all the same effects as before, just running on new legs. Control Center is perfect 60FPS on iPhone 5 but it suffers on every newer iPhone ahead of it.

It's just the matter of whether Apple makes these tweaks or not... I've lost hope in Apple lately, but something is still there.. iOS 7 trashed a lot of things in terms of performance, and even worse, quality control took a nose dive. iOS 8 made it even worse, never got fully repaired. iOS 9 came in and made it all worse yet. 5 months later, things are *STILL* having issues. I hope 9.2 is the next 7.1. 7.1 wasn't perfect but it sure as hell was close to it. I want to see 9.2 stay in beta for months like how 7.1 did so they can really fix stuff. Polishing takes time and that's what they need to do, take their time and work things out. Not do what they did with iOS 8 and rush to crank out x.x update after x.x update just to add features upon features.

I hope Apple fixes enough so that iOS 9 is truly what it was meant to be, smoother than iOS 8, and better battery life. So far, battery is worse or identical to 8 for me. Hopefully Apple can dig themselves out of this huge hole iOS 7/8 dug, and from here on out iOS will be pretty smooth like it was pre-iOS 7.

Honestly, it's because Apple cheaped out with the RAM. They put only 1GB RAM in the 6/6 Plus and we're already feeling the pain with iOS 9. Such a shame as it's been one year.

I've forgiven Apple for mistakes in the past. But these aren't just mistakes anymore, it's just pure and simple short-sighted greed. For example, they're still making a 16GB base model phone. Seriously, they made a phone that shoots 4K video, and the majority of users are going to be gimped with 16GB storage, since most people don't upgrade the storage. Wow. The majority of phone manufacturers moved to 32GB, since the price of NAND flash has plummeted. But somehow Apple just can't quite manage to spend LESS than $1 more to double the storage on the supposedly "premium" phone. And that's literally true, the cost of NAND storage has plummeted so much in recent years that the difference between 16GB and 32GB is mere pennies.

Apple can only piss people off for so long before it becomes another also-ran in the phone industry. Titans have come and gone before, and Apple is only speeding up its demise by making such stupid greedy mistakes.

Apple fanboy here. I hear what you're saying. Nonetheless, I'm horrified to consider Apple could become the next RIM.

I used to be a apple Fanboy. However, iOS 7 had changed that. over the 2 years leading up to now, I've had my period of good times and bad times.

Now, I think I've come up with my deciosion. Apple is a great company and, it has innovation. However, it no longer possesses that special feeling I like about it. Take my 4S for example, it still has iOS 6. The phone has life to it. The UI, the response time, and, the engineering behind how it's quicker than it's iOS 9 equivalent (I'm still wanting to do a video comparing the two together but, I reached a setback that should be resolved by next year.)

I used to be obsessed with Apple, and, now I see it's decline through each software version. With iOS 9 alone, it had innovation but, this year as a whole, Apple has been playing it's same tricks as always. The IPod Touch 6th gen is released and, right off the bat, it's outdated without a fingerprint sensor. iOS 8.4 introduced apple music that "it makes it harder to listen to the stuff I actually own!" through the music app. Finally, more bloatware is introduced and, still a 16GB phone! I got stuck with one last upgrade cycle because, parents insisted we buy one through the AT&T store instead of amazon. They only had in stock 16gb and, it's been to small for me ever since.

Overall, Apple has innovation (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, etc) but, I've lost hope. The new UI is not going to change any time soon and, a barely get by through custom icon shortcuts (unjailbroken) My next phone is going to be a V10 for the next 4-5 years and, my next tablet may not even be a Apple one if they continue in there current direction (already buying a old iPad 2 (64GB) just to jailbreak it to downgrade to iOS 6:D)!

I have actually tried all of this and Apple Store people say it is a none issue and each time I call support "the next version of iOS will fix it" it sang like clockwork.
 
I know people complain a lot and feel let down, but I'm just not experiencing it.

I have an iPad 3 (32-bit) and a 6S+ (64-bit) and had a 5S (64-bit). All are fast and feel great. When iOS 7 came out, I suffered horrible reboots and music disappearing. When iOS 8 came out, horrible crashes and a Bluetooth stack that would reload, resprings of springboard. Now with iOS 9, I'm almost bug free and fast.

I'm not 100% in the clear. To get my iPad to perform, a had to reload/restore, which I expect was a result of iOS 7/8 crashes and a corrupt filesystem; I haven't had the issues since. My 6S+ battery life I expected to be better, but that I do expect to be resolved with 9.2. But I am happy with it.

I do monitor battery for misbehaving apps, and if they are, they lose background privileges. I don't blame Apple for misbehaving apps.

To sum up, my devices are fast and no longer crash. I feel they have many, but not all, of the bugs I was experiencing on 7/8 are gone. Now for a contact search fix and better battery life and all should be good.

iOS 3 sucked until 3.2
iOS 4 sucked
iOS 5 sucked until 5.1
iOS 6 sucked until 6.1
iOS 7 sucked until 7.1
iOS 8 sucked
iOS 9 sucks at the moment but we're only at x.1 in what seems to be an accelerated 9.x update cycle.

They all suck at the start. Most of them are good at the end.

Except iOS 4 and iOS 8. They both sucked from bean to cup.

This is funny stuff here. My 6 plus and 6 NEVER choked on iOS 9. Hell my 6 plus is what this was posted on in real time, no lag.

If your phone is freezing or too slow, take it out of the freezer

Neither can any of them, this is a BS problem 99% of people don't have but this one wants us to believe it's a persistent issue across devices less than two years old plus the current flagships.

iOS 9 is worse than 8. They promised the opposite.

Actually for many people it is:

iOS 3 sucks and iOS2 was better
iOS 4 sucks and iOS3 was better
iOS 5 sucks and iOS4 was better
iOS 6 sucks and iOS5 was better
iOS 7 sucks and iOS6 was better
iOS 8 sucks and iOS7 was better
iOS 9 sucks and iOS8 was better

People naturally have selective memory. Most remember the good while only currently seeing the bad. Also most people WANT change until they get it and then they hate the changes.
