Agree, just watched it on my YouTube Subscription as well. The smoothness in animations is so perfected and there was literally no irrelevant 'extra' animations that was present from iOS 7 onwards.

I was most surprised when the iOS 6 Safari browser SMOKED the iOS 9 Safari. iOS 6's Safari is SO fast!!

Has been the case since iOS 7. Nothing new there since a few years ago.
What's been the case since iOS 7? Devices getting slower with updates isn't new to iOS 7.

What can you do on iOS 9, that you couldn't do on iOS6? Nothing.
For me the iOS 6 + jailbreak was the best experience.
Here are some I remember that don't need a jailbreak now:

-Handoff
-3rd party keyboards
-64-bit software
-Quick Reply
-Control Center
-Proactive
-Content blocking
-Low Power mode
-iPad Multitasking
-Night Shift
-Apple Music
-Widgets
-AirDrop
-Health App
-Family Sharing
-Wifi Calling
-Facetime Audio

That iOS wasn't as snappy or animations were longer or interactions changed to some degree, it happened with the redesign that was part of iOS 7 and has remained there through iOS 9 so far as that uses the same design.

everyone is different, and i'm happy for the people for whom those new features are critial.

but for me, all of them are either of no interest, don't deliver of their purported utility, or just generally aren't worth the increased sluggishness that apparently is the "price" of progress.

That "nothing" right there just shows that not much that would be said can really be taken seriously.

I don't get people who are nostalgic over old software!
Do you guys also want to go back to a time where you had to take a dump in an outhouse?

3rd party extensions for me are huge in iOS 9. (introduced in iOS 8). So I can share things to 3rd party apps like Whatsapp, Telegram, Documents.

What's proactive?

Proactive is Siri Suggestions. It learns when you use apps or contacts you talk to based on the day, time of day and your location. Then suggests those apps or contacts you talk to based off those three things in the new Search Screen to the left of Page 1 in the Home Screen. Suggested apps can also appear on the lock screen or in the app switcher (just like handoff does.) Suggested Contacts can also appear if you have a 3D Touch enabled iPhone when you Peek on the Messages app icon.

Siri suggestions can also queue up playlists you frequently listen to (again based off the day, time of day and your location) when you plug in headphones.

Actually I thought iOS 9 would be slower than that on the video but it seems to run pretty well.

iOS9 has a lot more services to run in background.

The main difference is that iOS 7 and more are less visualy constrasted and animations are more "zen".

By the way, I think Apple shouldn't use a live view of the current app in the apps switcher. It consumes power for nothing.

Welcome to software progression. It's been around for decades.

Windows 95 screamed on a Pentium CPU with 64Mb RAM. Windows XP barely ran on that.
