They download automatically, but you still have to click to install it and agree to the terms and conditions twice.

If you don't want to install you can delete the downloaded update file.

I don't think that's true. None of my iDevices download automatically - they notify me that the update is available and I hit 'cancel.' However, this...

But that goddamn red sign doesn't go away

...is completely true.

Agreed again, speaking from experience. I had a 4S that I kept on the final update of its original iOS version and by the time I finally sold it three or four years later every time I synced I got this massive list of apps that wouldn't update, and there were also many apps that wouldn't even install.

My iPod Touch 5 is still on 7.1.2 and it's getting almost as bad. There are currently 22 apps that won't update and it doesn't even have that many apps installed.

There's also the security issues to deal with.

So, yup, not an ideal solution. But as long as Apple sees these massive update rates, they're not going to get the message...no great solutions.

So true.

Don't care about their profits. They have lost most of their top engineers to Google/Microsoft and other companies and along with their ability to innovate.
For me my iPhone is a work device.
My Note 5 is now my device of choice and my ecosystem has been shifting away from iDevices.

Apple devices in my family world are suffering the "Death of 1000 Cuts". Android now gets "First Look".
It would take a really significant event to turn the tide at this point.
All while they are setting continued sales records. Whatever is happening they are doing better than even just fine. So care or don't care it doesn't matter.

It's all because of Apple brand.

I live in Indonesia (developing country) and iPhone 6 16GB priced at approx $700. Local people here have a very high pride—they often buy branded products—even if they don't have the money. Don't be surprised with young woman / man who earn only $110 / month use the latest iPhone. Their uses? messaging, social media, and light game. They don't even care about lags, random restart, or whatever else it is because of "Apple" as a brand.

Pride trumps functionality. As long as developing country people have these mentality: Apple will thrive.

I'm not lying, all 5 devices in my house automatically downloaded iOS 9. Maybe try doing a little research before claiming someone isn't posting accurate information. I don't make stuff up just to post it.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say you were lying. One of my sons (adult) has had that happen and actually let the d@mned thing install, so yes, it does happen, but it's never happened to me.

I just had an epiphany(?). Maybe a realization(?).
Sitting here this morning, the fresh smell of last nights rain in the air, realizing that unless I have to, I no longer use my iPhone 6S+. It is a work phone so it gets use. But subconsciously, when I reach for a smartphone, I gab my Note 5.

Times change I guess.

But what percent of developing countries account for Apple sales?

Brand loyalty is what every company should strive for. Apple is selling a great product, with great customer service. This is the reason for it's customer loyalty and record sales.

China alone is enough. Its either brand loyalty or a prestige purchase.

And some people went back to flip phones or still use them. Everyone has their own take on things that can also change, but it's just a personal thing with everyone having their own and not being impacted by others.

Let me be a bit clearer.
My behavior changed as a result of a degrading user experience with my iDevices.

I'm an engineer by trade and use what works and tries to simplify / improve my tasks using available tools.
Apparently I am no longer seeing the iPhone as a positively useful tool.

Flagship phones like the Note and the Nexus as well are very good devices. The best thing I say about Android is that although it has it's fair share of lag issues the lag is never annoying like it is on my iPhones and iPads and in my experience no Android update slows down a device and in fact as in the case of Kitkat made it faster.Maybe it's because Android has faster animations?

You can also go into settings and turn off animations if you choose. Not an animate or fade but an actual "off". :D

I think we should start a petition or something to let Apple now this is not ok.

I understand that. I'm saying that that is such a personal thing that it's quite different for everyone. And with pretty much every iPhone setting sales records it seems that for the vast majority it's the opposite.

You should go with what works for you.

I find the 6s to be an amazing piece of integrated technology. It feels so "old" to use even a 5s on 9.0.2. Apple did a great job with the 6s. IOS 9 has breathed some additional life into my ipad 2. With the safari updates I find I reach for it rather than use my desktop computer with two big monitors.

Similar efforts really made a difference since the iOS 7 days...look at iOS 9 years later...

I agree the hardware is pretty spectacular. Heck, my new main (Note 5) is a lot like it. It's more like iOS as it grows doesn't give me the smooth dependable performance/function it did at one time.

Now on my Mini 3 - it fecked that puppy all to heck. Gonna wait on the iPad 3 and iPad 4 of the wife's.

Samsung has the highest sales records in Android and it's a fact they are **** at updates and software yet they sell more Than Nexus and Motorola.

As my observation on Apple's device (iphone, ipod) the most speedy and best performance is when those devices use the original OS version come out from the store.
For example, 4s/ipad2 perform best on IOS 4.3 and iPod 5G / iPhone 5s perform best on IOS 7.1.2, iPhone 6 on IOS 8. So, upgrading OS (major version), even though very tempting because of new features and software compatibility, I would do it very conservatively.
My 4s & iPad2 are using 7.1.2, and few times has lag or crash during heavy load, which never / very rarely happened when they are still in original 4.3. While my iPhone 6 is very responsive, no lag, never crash with its original IOS 8 (8.3 - latest minor update). At some points, we may need to see iPhone just like old times Nokia phone. Upgrade fonly if really needed and mandatory.

Just wanted to add that I was literally freaking out when I updated to iOS 9 on my iPhone 6 because the slowdown was completely obvious. Downgraded to 8.4.1 and was happy for a while but ultimately liked the new features in iOS 9 and decided to upgrade again and suffer the consequences yesterday. I read in here from some users that this lag was fixed in 9.1 betas and decided to give it a shot as I figured there wasn't much to lose as I was stuck on iOS 9 from now on. Updated to iOS 9.1 beta 4 and it feels like I'm back on 8.4.1 again. I'm actually content with my phone again! 9.1 feels like what iOS 9.0 should've been.
