"Choose not to" is difficult. I very strongly doubt they're making a conscious decision to do that. The issue may be, as someone posted a little bit further up, that in the push to add new features so they can sell new hardware the basics get sacrificed. Obviously that's not an ideal situation, but it isn't really surprising, either. Ultimately our only real remedy is to vote with our feet (or more appropriately, our wallets).
Right, Apple sold 13 million phones during launch week. I'm sure people voted with their feet, but it may not have been noticeable.

they probably would have sold 13 million iphones launch week even if they still came with a version of ios 8 that supported the new features

i can't answer that, in the same way I can't answer why my iPad 2 feels like a new tablet in the face of all of the "evidence" posted here.
You're probably one of those persons who don't see the difference between 30fps and 60fps.

Me - Uh... Apple, I have big bugs on my iPhone with the new iOS .....
Apple - We are working on a fix ....
Me - Uh... Apple, I have the update and I still have big bugs. You fixed some and gifted me with new ones.

Apple - The new iOS comes out very soon. Upgrading to the new version will fix your problem. You'll get the latest security, new functionality (limited by your model of course) and it will run smoother and faster.

I also own a iPad Mini 1 with iOS 9 and its gotten slower as well. You cant tell me that theres a hella lot stutter in the app switcher and in keyboard input in the browser. At this point my Mini is like a $100 Android tablet

Is it so much to ask for the same reliability in performance? They continually prove they can do it with mid OS versions, how about slow it down and get the X.0 version as good as the mid OS versions usually are?

The situation isn't really black and white, in spite of some of the posts at MR. My wife and I and our two adult sons all have used Android devices for varying periods of time in the past and are all using iPhones now. My wife and my younger son would tell you that overall they actually prefer Android but use iPhones because of a couple of key functions. (For my part, I have no desire to go back to the horrible support and hardware/OS/app conflicts that result from having a hardware manufacturer, an OS provider, a wireless provider that has to vet and roll out firmware updates, and a huge pile of app developers who do not work to any reasonable common standard all involved in whether or not, or how well, my mobile devices work...)

Except that if posts at MR at to be taken at face value, Apple is woefully bad at just that. :D
No, it's because MR members appreciate it when Apple does pay attention to details and in the same manner are equally (or even more) saddened when Apple is lacking in areas where they previously didn't.

The Appreciation is based on an opinion. I agree I appreciate the little details that Apple takes care of. I clearly am not saddened when a software/hardware vendor stumbles in a minor way.

Some find minor issues major, some find major issues minor. Opinions differ. Doesn't mean anyone is wrong.

I'm one of the most iOS animation OCD folk on here and trust me, 9.1 makes a huge difference on beta 4. When 9.1 goes public everyone should be very happy.

I do, but it's currently dead due to a broken charging port. I plan on fixing it, but overall it's in worse condition than my 4s. Keeping this thing on iOS 6 is much easier said than done. :p

Glad you understand! I miss iOS 8 and the compatible apps when I used it on my 5s...

How would I be able to downgrade my 4s?
Here's a link, it's a bit complicated but at least it's possible just in case: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/downgrade-...-using-odysseusota-without-shsh-blobs-1508534

Legitimate Question: Why do we continue to marginalize performance issues with some devices (such as my iPhone 6+)? The hardware on the 6+ should in no way be incapable of running iOS 9 smoothly. If you're a iPhone 6/6S/6S+ owner whose phone is running iOS 9 without a problem, then that's great, but unfortunately there are a set of people no matter how small, myself included, who feel as if iOS 9 runs like absolute **** on their device.

The 6 Plus has always been problematic performance wise. Maybe Apple will fix it in a future update.

No idea... my 6 from a fresh install has all kinds of GUI laggyness, from unlocking and the top bar waits a second before appearing, opening the mail app getting a ling pause with a white screen to showing 1000+ emails in the badge, then dropping down to 50 where it should be (seeming like it resprings).

I do believe some phones have issues and some phones not. there are some people who feel feel their phones run great and should be told your not capable of seeing the difference. Period.

This is starting to sound a lot like VW and #dieselgate
Come on apple, own up...

Planned obsolescence by tweaking software? no way could that happen, lol... then again who would have thought VW would tweak their software to pass emissions tests
