Hey guys,

Thought I'd start a thread on this.

I'm thinking:

a) Retina Display
b) Multitasking where you tap the top of the screen to bring down tabs.
c) Front facing camera

Anyone got any other ideas?

Retina display would be astonishing but pretty much impossible
multitasking will be done the same way as iphones, coming this autumn with iOS4

front facing camera, probably

I think there will be a slightly higher resolution display (though not retina quality).

If we're really lucky, the next one will have LTE connectivity.

There would need to be some quantum leap in OLED technology making it usable outdoors.

t would be nice if they could shrink the screen size while keeping the resolution by using the retina screen tech. In general I'd like to see v2 get thinner and lighter.

1. MiniDisplayPort out
2. 4X pixels to 1536 X 2048; same strategy involved in the iPhone 4
3. USB in
4. Dock connector on one of the long sides
5. Mouse/curser support
6. Verizon option
7. Expensive

I can't see a retina display in the next iPad. Not only does no-one make one that size, if they did, it would be so expensive that hardly anyone would be able to afford the product.

Multi-tasking? Well, that's coming in IOS 4, and will likely work in the same way as the iPhone 4.

Front-facing camera? Seems likely. Facetime on an iPad would be brilliant.

I wouldn't be surprised if a gyroscope is in there too.

Apple has enough pull that OEM will make what Apple wants, because they know it will lead to a multimillion unit sale. I still think they will follow the 4X pixel strategy, which is less than the ppi of the iPhone 4

Good thoughts, keep 'em coming ;)

Yeah retina would be awesome, yet expensive. Anything is possible with Apple, justs costs a lot.

Facetime would be astonishing on it, gyroscope is likely as well.

Won't matter because at the rate Apple are going, we won't be able to get the iPad2 in Ireland either. Maybe they'll launch it here first next time ha bloody ha

1. longer battery life
2. gyroscope
3. Verizon/AT&T LTE Model
4. Maybe new design

I can't imagine them doing 2x resolution without driving the cost up too high, but I can imagine them bumping the DPI up to 200 (—it's 132 right now, according to Wiki's cool DPI page. iPhone 4 is 326, for reference).

Here's my list:

Front facing Camera
Gyroscope
More Ram
A5 chip (—lol)
Better battery (—lasts two-three hours longer?)
Gorilla Glass for better protection (—this one is extremely important to me…)
SD card slot

I also think they're going to go with a 2-year design-release model instead of a 1-year; the iPad doesn't have enough competition for them to release one every year. The iPhone, however, does.

Retina Display is not going to happen. Apple doesn't need to do it. They are still selling out like hot cakes. Retina display will be very expensive on ipad. Apple will most likely wait for 3rd or 4th gen. Also, they might just jump into OLED by then

2. Multitasking is fine the way it is on iphone

3. Front facing Camera is very likely, but I doubt I will use it.

1. Gyroscope is definitely going to be on the next ipad
2. A5 CHIP is maybe. But, they might or might not update the next ipad chip. My guess is that they will.
3. 512 Ram
4. They will probably keep it same price, but they will double the memory with starting at 32GB instead of 16GB.
5. Better Battery is maybe...
6. SD card slot? Not going to happen.

i think theres like 30 other threads about this i even started one like a month ago

a) wont happen due to expense and lack of need.
b) will be exactly like iOS 4
c) Probably wont happen due to the size of the iPad and the fact that facetime is not an app in a sense, you have to first initiate a call from what I understand but I could be wrong here. (Uses wifi though) but I see it as awkward to hold properly.

I predict:

a) OLED Screen/Gorilla Glass
b) Slight design change, nothing too major (maybe a little less black space for fingers, maybe not) maybe even thinner, who knows.
c) A few more iPad specific apps, maybe a clock/stocks port, upgraded for iPad.
d) Gyroscope for sure.
e) 32GB, 64GB, 128GB Models WiFi/3G (no more 16gb)
f) Slight battery improvement.
g) More ram (512MB/1GB depending on release time, could be a year or two away)

I don't expect to see a new one for at least a year, there really isn't any competition for it. Plus, what's wrong with the current iPad other then some software issues?

There would be an OLED screen since Apples "Retina Display" challenges the OLED market.

Lots of good stuff in here. Refresh cycle will be interesting. I think the resolution will stay the same or be very close. I think a front camera with facetime is 100% going to happen, maybe a back camera also. SD card slot would be nice but I doubt it. I can see it being more like the IP4 in form factor. Gyro for sure. I also expect some non-hardware strategic relationship happening. No clue what it will be but something cloud based and "magical"

I think they also need to address the business crowd better but that won't take a revision.

ash =o)

I don't think apple will do retina display for the next ipad not because of not being able to source the high res display. The issue will be finding a low power graphics chip to drive the high res. I think apple will make the ipad a little bit smaller but keep the resolution. I guessing they'll shrink ipad to 5" screen which will make it pocketable. Also, camera will be there, both front front facing and back. More capacity, maybe like 128gb. Also, ipad will arrive on verizon before iPhone. I'm assuming AT&T only has exclusive on iPhone. Also, cloud storage will be introduce since you can produce more content on ipad.
