iPad iPad 2017 how many people have it?

It seems this forum is dominated by iPad Pro threads. I was just wondering how many people got the iPad 2017 (or 5th gen) when they discovered what a good deal it is, and maybe this thread can be a place to discuss this tablet!

Personally I love it.

I don't even notice that the screen isn't laminated

I got it for my mom for mother’s day from Verizon because she was using an iPad 2. She loves it and uses it constantly. She has games on there she plays with the grandkids and she does all her browsing on there as well. It is a huge improvement over the 2. She doesn’t consume Netflix and the like. It’s great with the LTE because she can use it anywhere. She is 70 years old by the way and she’s pretty good with the ins and outs of Apple products because they are so easy to use. If I bought her and android it would be constant questions. LOL

I actually went from a 12.9" Pro to a 5th-gen iPad. The Pro was great in every way (bought off of someone, so I got it a bit cheaper), but I had a display issue that got replaced under warranty. I wasn't needing anything more powerful, but the out-of-warranty repairs on that with my use case is a bit ridiculous, so I figured I'd sell it with some warranty, get a smaller, lighter device, and set the rest of the cash aside.

I splurged and got the cellular model, but it is nice to have something that is a bit easier to grab and go. I also have an iPad Air 2 at work that is my primary computer, so having two similarly-sized devices helps with consistency.
 
I got the WiFi only version as well, about a week ago. At $329 it’s the cheapest brand new iPad ever. Price was my main consideration. Runs everything well and the display, while not laminated, is excellent. Battery life is incredible. I loved my old iPad mini 2. Actually preferred the form factor to the 9.7”. But I’m very, very happy.

Do you see a difference in screen quality between the iPad Air 2 and the iPad 2017?
 
Got the 128 GB version but I too regret not getting the cellular as well. I’m super happy with it. I use it for almost everything and it’s where I watch most of my Netflix. I also have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A with S Pen but it’s the iPad I prefer, regardless of the non laminated screen. Not to mention the phenomenal battery life.
I would recommend it in a heartbeat.
 
Yep, I went with a couple 5th gens that I couldn’t pass up for $199 no tax (from AAFES). I had the 10.5 Pro, but returned it to Target as to me it wasn’t all that significantly better. I agree, I love this model.
 
I have a 128GB Cellular model that replaced a launch day Air 2 that I dropped :(

Overall it is a great device, but I did notice the unlaminted screen. I have gotten used to it, but between that and the extra thickness, it took a bit. I love it though. My iPad is used primarily for media consumption and some light gaming, so I didn't see any point going with the Pro.

Went from Air 2 to 2nd-Gen 12.9" to 2017 iPad and love it. Lack of laminated, wide-colour and ProMotion display is noticeable once you go "backwards" but the value proposition is excellent. Definitely the best bang-for-buck; I don't notice any difference in speed or power vs. the 12.9"
 
Got it for my dad to replace his iPad 3. I'm quite envious of its battery life. Best battery life I've seen on an iPad since the iPad 4.

Side-by-side it's noticeable because of the air gap and poorer glare reduction (sort of like an Air vs an Air 2), but by itself, your eyes adjust pretty quickly. Colors seem pretty close, too.

It's weird because the 2017 iPad is obviously a rehashed Air with better internals (an iPad SE, if you will), and looking at it on its own, it's a pretty good device. Next to the Air 2, some things seem "worse" (thicker, less nice display), but the price, faster SoC, and Band 12 LTE (on the cellular model), it's an upgrade and can run with the 9.7" Pro in some regards.

I got a Pro, but this is my first one without cellular (Last 3 iPads had it) and I don’t miss it. It’s nice for it to be there for sure. But unless you know that you will be in situations constantly where there is no WiFi or a short tether to the phone wont do it’s a waste imo. On my last ipad i didn’t use it once in 3 years and my ipad is with me 24/7.

I have an air 2 (and a 12.9 second gen), and my daughter got a 2017 for Xmas. I was interested to see what it was like... honestly, the screen seemed totally fine, and once it’s in a case, and thickness difference is completely unnoticeable. Seems like a nice product! The only reason I wouldn’t get it for myself is that when I upgrade the air 2, I will want something that works with the pencil. Now that I’m used to it on my Pro, I miss it when using my smaller iPad.
 
The iPad 2017 screen doesn’t show fingerprints as much as the Pro’s laminated screen does.
 
Replaced my iPad 4 with the iPad 2017. I’m no artist or pro to use iPad for creativity. My usage of the device is administrative work when I’m out and about and also when I don’t want to lug my laptop and media consumption. This device has got plenty of juice to do all that without any issues.

I’ve bought a Bluetooth keyboard to go with it for my typing requirements. That’s it.

I teach LSAT online. I draw on a whiteboard for my students, annotate PDFs, and I also like it for fine touch control of certain things... web browsing sometimes (it can be easier to click tiny links or buttons), selecting text, etc. Plus playing around stuff, like coloring.
 
The 5th gen plus iOS 11 brought me back to the iPad after a few years hiatus. When iOS 11 was demonstrated at WWDC this summer, I decided to get a 5th gen iPad and experiment with using it as my primary device. I got a separate Bluetooth keyboard to use for larger documents, but for the most part, I just use the iPad without it.

So far, it has been a great value. I primarily use my iPad for “light productivity” tasks:

  • Reviewing and responding to Mail and Messages
  • Managing Contacts, Calendar and Remainders
  • Creating Notes and Daily Journal
  • Reading Books and PDFs
  • Annotating and Marking up PDFs
  • Creating and editing routine documents (Pages, Numbers, Keynote)
  • Web searches
  • Photo sharing and simple edits
  • Managing Files with the new File App and Dropbox

Of course, I also use the iPad for entertainment/consumption: Netflix, Direct TV Now, and YouTube. I occasionally play chess and solitaire.......but I am not much for games in general.

The above list of tasks covers the vast majority of what I do on a computer, so I really don’t need a laptop per se. If I do have some heavy lifting to do, I can use Dropbox to download the file onto our Family Desktop Mac. Honestly, the need rarely present itself.....but it is nice to have when necessary.

I have an older MBA, and I am trying to figure out what to do with it. It’s the best computer I have ever owned, so not sure I want to get rid of it. But, I really don’t need a laptop anymore.

Got one to replace a very old (but still working) iPad 2. Does all the tasks a typical user needs at a great price.
 
This case arrived for my iPad yesterday and I’m loving it. It’s kinda like a ripoff of an otter box case but it doesn’t have a built in screen protector. That works for me because I hate otter box screen protectors and I already have a glass screen protector on my iPad.

Today I bought one with 4g and it works awesome!
Before I used tan 6th gen ipod . I like the iPod but I like the iPad more because of the large screen.
