I just picked one up today to replace my dead Chomebook Pixel it seems nice enough and should do the minimal things I ask of my portable computers.
I have never bought an apple product(well Ipad Nano doesn't count) and want to purchase an Ipad. Currently I can get a 2017 32GB 5th Gen for 279.00 or an Air 2 128GB for 297. I am trying to figure out if the newer one is the way to go or slightly older with 128GB on it? Looks like the air 2 has a better display but expensive to repair if cracked. I like having more memory but it's also nice to have the newest thing out. It will be used for movies, web browsing, reading and light game play. Any advice is welcome....
Thanks,
Tom
I suggest checking refurbished iPads on eBay. I got a barely used, perfect condition open box 2017 iPad with 128gb for $299.99 with no taxes and free shipping.

Yeah I saw that article too...... never can tell though. 259 seems to good to be true. I figured 300 or 329.I read an article that said the 2018 iPad 9.7 will most likely have the A10 chip and start at only $259 in price. I might buy a 9.7 iPad at Costco and then return before the 90 day policy is up if Apple does release a faster 9.7 model in March.
So I looked at the refurbished specials on apples web site. They are charging more than what the airforce exchange is charging for a refurbished unit. Costco is selling the 2017 for 279 as well. If I get it at exchange no tax. I am curious though how they are selling a new iPad air 2 128gb for 297. I didn't think they had any "new" stock left? I dunno..... I am leaning to the 32gb 2017 just because it has a newer chip set..... than again I have never owned an ipad..... sooooooo I dunno sale ends Feb 8th lolApple Refurbished Specials us first place to check. Cheapest, $200 tax free for military (both active and veterans). That was an awesome deal.During the Holidays, the 2017 iPad was on sale for as low as $250. Great deal. I bought mine during the summer for $300, and used it a ton while traveling. With iOS 11, you can actually get a lot of work done on these machines. I am mainly talking about light productivity stuff (mail, calendar, notes, pdf annotations, document review and edits, etc..).
Also, if you add a separate BT keyboard (I use the Logitech K380; $30 on sale), you can do a decent job of creating documents and simple spreadsheets. For multiple viewing and typing angles, I picked-up the Speck Balance Folio Case from BB for $20. So, it is possible to own a new iPad with BT Keyboard and Folio Case for $300. Not bad.
In no way am I saying the 2017 iPad replaces a full blown computer or laptop. But, for on-the-go mobile productivity, it's a pretty good option for the price.....assuming you can save the heavy lifting for your office desktop.
