As a teenager interested in tech and engineering (and apple )i will probably keep saving over and over again and just get every generation :p.....im not worried about it just yet. We got 8 or 9 months at the latest i would think.

I'm curious. It seems weird to go outside with a big iPad and take a picture. You'd think there are easier ways to do that, like a phone or the old fashion way, a camera ;) (my way).

People who are waiting for "obvious features" are probably going to have to wait for 2 years like with the iPhone -> iPhone 3GS transition. In the meantime, that means people will have been able to use an iPhone/iPad for 2 years.

Granted, these 1st gen products aren't perfect, but I never did quite understand why you can't just sell it and buy a newer version. It's not just Apple, it's just the pace of technology!

Buying tech stuff and then running it into the ground means that you're spending months to years with a product that "aint the best", and then it's worth nearly zero when you replace it. Instead, selling it to someone after a year or so nets you a decent amount of cash and you've always got the latest version. A win-win!

I'll get one now but wait for the wife. She is someone who could literally replace her Macbook with an iPad but we would really miss the camera for iChat when I travel. Many have no use for it but it is an odd item for Apple to leave out. I'm sure there is a reason. The only thing worse than not having a camera would be having a buggy one that didn't work right.

All that said, most people buying the iPad now are going to be using it several hours a day. If you factor in reselling it in a 6-12 months and buying the new revision, I think I calculated that it is costing you about $0.25 an hour of use to "rent" the current version until rev B arrives.

ash =o)

iPad 2nd Generation Discussion

So, how do you think Apple will update iPad the next time around?
And do you think that this iPad is going to look as outdated as the 1st gen iPhone does now? Trying to look at it right now and imagine it looking old.
Maybe they'll change the metal to the plastic that the iPhone has.

why are you talking about second gen ipad when the first one has only been out 3 days? And the 1 gen. iphone looks the same as all 3 but the back is different

Seems like a smart choice due to the wifi issues, although if the iPad is having heat issues plastic wouldn't be so good.

Plastic cover where antenna is.

What I want to see in iPad Mk II

FireWire 800
Camera (3MP min)
Microphone
Flash player app

Combined internet suite: don't want to have to keep loading a different app each time I switch from SKYPE, AIM, or Twitter.

I think they will probably keep the basic design, but it will be lighter and thinner in version 2. I think it will be similar to the way they streamlined the ipod touch to be alot thinner. Doing this will also get rid of alot of the complaints the ipad is too heavy(although I think its fine).

Also think they will include a forward facing camera.

And I think eventually, maybe not in version 2 just yet, they will get rid of the 3g and wifi only versions, and make every version include 3g by default.

There is a microphone on the iPad currently.

I think this is a bit premature, the 3G models don't even have a date yet. I'll join in anyway...

The only things I really want are:
Cloud syncing - If I'm on vacation without my laptop I want a way to backup my iPad. Not everything on the device, just new content I've purchased, files I've worked on in apps and stuff like that. Only things that have changed since the last sync with iTunes. They could make it a feature of MobileMe.

Restore without iTunes - Again, if I'm on vacation without a "real" computer and somehow my iPad gets screwed up (boot loop for example) I want to be able to fix it right from the iPad. Preferably without erasing user content.

This stuff would be way more valuable to me than a crappy webcam or something.

Do you think there'll be an upgrade/bump for the iPad before October 2010?
My thoughts on upcomming hard drive upgrades:
iPhone 4thG 8GB and faster A4 CPU
iPhone 4thG 32GB and faster A4 CPU
iPhone 4thG 64GB with fast A4 CPU

iPod Touch 3G 8Gb (not slow 2nd gen CPU)
iPod Touch 4G 32GB w camera and even faster A4 CPU
iPod Touch 4G 64Gb w camera and even faster A4 CPU
iPod Touch 4G 128GB w camera and even faster A4 CPU

iPad 16GB wifi (Competeing with netbooks, kindle and cheap tablets)
iPad 32GB wifi+3G front facing camera
iPad 64GB wifi+3G front facing camera
iPad 128GB wifi+3G front facing camera

I really don't get why the big black Apple logo on the back of the iPad dosen't work as antenna.. ?!

+1

I agree, seeing as how the iPad has an N chip for faster wireless service, I don't understand why we can't wireless sync our media to the iPad or download updates (I know 4.0 preview is on Thursday, so I'm hoping)

I don't understand why people want a webcam on the iPad, seeing as how my iMac and MacBook are stationary for when I use iChat, I don't feel the need to walk around the house holding the iPad up to my face for a prolong period of time (and trying to avoid the Up-The-Nose shots).

For my wife, and millions of Chinese people out there that watch tudou or youku. This would be the instant seller if flash is supported.

So I guess flash support is her first priority. :)

For me though, a real meaningful way to create files and handle different files (like office,PDF, and others) would be my first priority. I then won't have to carry a laptop with me on trips.

the 2G/3G iPod touches are actually thicker than the first gen. They just have a differently shaped back (curved) so it seems much thinner. Apple already did this with the iPad...

...and a thread on this already?? Its been out for three days!

They already look dated. It's too thick, the bezel frame at all, and the fact that it has a physical button are all going to look pretty clunky to you in two or three years. Kind of how people look at first gen ipods these days.
