with a 4 year old technology screen
The screen looks beautiful. It did then, it still does. I don't know if you look at it and go 'ugh, look at that yellow screen with only 5 nits and a resolution.. i can see the individual pixels'with a 4 year old technology screen
Not everyone cares about the older screen. The internals is what is important.... how it runs.... stability, etc.

I agree . the air 2 is very stable, still runs great and has a better screen than apples budget iPad offering

I'm talking about the laminated display in the air 2. It is beautiful, I agree. Only screens better are the pro models. The new budget iPad has the worse screen of them all.
Since this thread has been resurrected somehow, I just wanted to let you guys know that I went for the current iPad (back in April) and am very happy with it
Thanks for all the input!
Yep. Depending on one's tasks, the Air 1 can be surprisingly useable. Of course, given deals available for 2017 iPad or Air 2, it's only worth considering if it's really cheap.I’m in the Air 1 is still cool camp. I had IOS 11 on my Air 1 and it ran fine. The only point I’d make is if you go with it, don’t upgrade to the next IOS release whatever you do.
I have an Air 1, Mini 4, and just picked up a 9.7" Pro. All of them will play Netflix and YouTube videos just fine. They'll all likewise browse the web and do email quite well. But, navigating the UI is definitely sluggish on the Air 1 compared to the other two, and that's definitely worth keeping in mind as iOS keeps evolving. My vote is the Air 2. It'll do the tasks you outlined for a while longer, and it'll be smooth about it.
