iPad Air 2 owners - thinking of 10.5?

Hi, there is a thread about pro 9.7 owners moving to a 10.5 but was wondering about the Air 2 owners.

Are you thinking of upgrading? Is your use just consumption and therefore you aren't? Do you think it's a decent upgrade?

My husband got the pro 9.7 last year and it never tempted me to upgrade (he upgraded from an air 1). But the 10.5 is tempting me more. I think currently I don't use the pro functions, I have a MacBook for computer needs. But given a pen and a 10.5 I may.

Would be good to know your thoughts!
 
I thought about it but think I'm going to pass. Apart from the bigger screen I don't see any real advantages to upgrading. I'm not really a "pro" user though so the air 2 still works for me to web browse watch YouTube etc.
 
Both of you are probably right. As an iPad the air 2 works great.

I am happy with my retina MacBook too - which I got in 2014. So really I'm covered.

I am still thinking of getting the 10.5 with a pen - I believe I'll be able to get more back if I sell the iPad Air 2 now rather than a year or two from now. But still deciding.
 
Well, to be honest I wanted to preorder it yesterday but than I noticed it ha NO BLUETOOTH 5.0.
WTF Apple??? Still using Bluetooth 4.2

I like your thinking here. Selling your iPad Air 2 and your MacBook Pro, to combine the best of both worlds with the iPad Pro and you could consider the smart keyboard as well. But It consolidates what you want into one device.

If was to go ahead with this plan, the smart keyboard would be a must. I'd probably do it properly and get the pencil too.
 
I pre-ordered a 10.5 pro to replace my Air 2 yesterday after the announcement. I have wanted the pro for sometime now for the keyboard and the pencil. At one point I was interested in the 12.9 inch and was waiting for that to be upgraded, but after using it a few times in the store, I think it it just too big for me for everyday use. I also had another reason to push me to upgrade. My Mom is currently using my old iPad 3 which no longer receives updates and is getting slow. I will now give her my Air 2 which will be a nice free upgrade for her and is, in my opinion, a better iPad than the new cheaper iPad since it has the laminated screen with less glare for her eyes. We will both be happy campers!!!

No, I won't upgrade. My 128GB LTE Air 2 works just fine and I don't see the additional bang for the (big) buck.
 
I don't know. I'm still happy with my Air 2. This is a much more tempting offer than the 9.7" Pro was but the price has gone up so much vs what I paid for my 128GB Air 2. I paid £479 for it at the time in 2015. The 10.5" Pro is now £709 for the 256GB option, but even a storage downgrade to 64GB would be £619.

I know I'd appreciate the bigger and better display, the much better speakers and the faster performance. But despite this, I'm not getting the desperate urge to upgrade as I do with my smartphones every year. I have read that iOS 11 is fully supported on the Air 2 (with no features being withheld). So it might be worth holding out for one more year. I've yet to fully make up my mind, but leaning towards keeping my Air 2 for one more generation.

My thoughts exactly. I only really want the screen improvements and this is a hefty price to pay for that. Hopefully this technology will trickle down to the standard iPad in the future.
 
Heh, I'm still rocking the Air 1, but will be pulling the trigger on either a 10.5 or 12.9 Pro this weekend. My kids are still using my old iPad Retina for their games.
 
I ordered my 10.5 today. I can't wait! I've been waiting for this ever since the larger iPad sizes were rumoured last year; I already have access to the 12.9 iPP and find it too large and unwieldy for anything other than desk-based use, so fully expecting the 10.5 to hit the sweet spot.

I think I'd now qualify as an iPad Pro user, if that translates to 'uses the the iPad to make money' and I'm thrilled with the upcoming changes in iOS 11. My only real longing at this point is for some kind of pointing device for use within writing apps. I'm a writer and whilst using keyboard shortcuts on the Apple Magic Keyboard gets me a long way, it's very irritating have to break a writing flow to touch the screen. I hoped for a new Magic Keyboard that would have a trackpad built in that would work with the pros, but so far no dice. If the next iPhone includes functionality like this—ie, the ability to use an iphone as a trackpad within selected apps—I'd definitely be upgrading to that too but I'm not holding my breath.

In the meantime, back to looking for cases. My worry is how accurate they are re cutouts etc; I don't want to have to return a badly fitting case.
 
10.5 looks great! I don't really need it or else I would upgrade. Next year might be a sweet spot to get it on discount.
 
If it was just myself I probably wouldn't upgrade. But since I hand down my devices to family members it really is a triple upgrade for me. I get the new 10.5 over the Air 2, and my dad gets the Air 2 over the Air 1 he currently has and my niece gets an Air 1 over the iPad 2 she currently has.

And uhh, which Bluetooth accessories and other laptops/tablets etc that you own require Bluetooth 5???
 
I have the Air 2 - not thinking of updating as I like the Air 2 very much. Now if I had the $ it might be a different story but the Air 2 is still super fast and the battery lasts me a week with my usage (light).

I have an Air 2 ATM. Still fast, but as it's from 2014 I find myself charging it daily.

Not many laptops, even Macs, have battery's that could perform that well after all these years!

My Air 2 is very new - that may help too :D (Jan 8 2017).

I’m on iOS 11 on on my iPad Air 2. While it is very buggy, it runs fine. I’m sure it’s a lot slower in processing some of those graphics that Apple showed in their keynote, but my job doesn’t require that stuff. I work solely on my Air 2 and iPhone.

Not sure if I’d upgrade to a pro model right now. The pencil would be useful, but not at the moment. Plus that damn camera bump really bothers me. I wish they’d stop with the bumps.

iOS 11 for the iPad is every thing Apple said, it really adds a lot of functionality to the device. I work much quicker, and I don’t think I could, work on a Mac or PC ever again. It’s just quicker on the iPad. I think iOS 11 will shut up a lot of the iPad complainers (especially here) that say they can’t do work on the iPad.
