My Rose Gold 256gb Air is preparing to ship. Express delivery for this Friday. 
Thought I read something in one of the phone threads: If the device is coming by express delivery, then it’s already in the U.S., if standard then it’s coming from China.
If that is true, great.

if I had to guess, I’d say the US but I could be wrong. I just ordered a 12 this morning and it’s delivering launch day as well and is preparing to ship already. Curious to see which one gets shipped first.
If they haven't shipped yet and they're scheduled for Friday delivery, I'd say they're almost certainly not coming from overseas. My folio case which was ordered at the same time is scheduled for a Wednesday delivery. It shipped yesterday and the tracking info shows that it's coming from the US. I'm in Canada.
I'd also think that with the month between the announcement and preorders they must have been getting stock ready here in North America. Remember early this month there were reports of stores receiving shipments of some new product.
I'm in the UK and ordered my iPad Air from Currys/PCWorld, and just noticed the email confirmation says "expect delivery by Thursday 22 October 2020".
I highly doubt it'll be delivered a day before launch, but if it actually does, I'll be pleasantly surprised!

I am very jealous. I stupidly converted some points I had into Amazon vouchers well ahead of the actual release date assuming Amazon would have stock to order. Still nothing on their website for any SKU of the new Air.

That's pretty much what I'm expecting as well, although I would like to see mine ship sometime today to feel 100% confident about a Friday arrival. My folio case shipped Sunday and is on schedule for a Wednesday arrival.
So my folio case was originally scheduled to be delivered on Thursday when I placed the order, then it moved up to Wednesday when it shipped, now apparently it’s out for delivery today!
