...so lets hope they actually open up orders tomorrow after the new announcements tomorrow night.
I'm hoping they just launch then for order and delivery straight away. No pre-ordering, then waiting a week or two rubbish.

Although it doesn't make much difference to me as I need to purchase it from Curry's instead of Apple directly.

...any particular reason you are ordering from Curry's?

I thought about doing that also (I have a finance plan with them) but as they're charging the same price as Apple, I may as well get it from Apple!

EDIT - Finance via Curry's is actually more expensive:

I have got a very good offer from Apple Store on iPad Pro 11 with free AirPods.

Do you think iPad Air 2020 will be that much a better choice than iPad Pro 2020?

The Pro all the way as long as you can afford it. Can anyone say what they believe would be as good or better than the Pro? The Air isn't supposed to compete with the Pro, only serve as a mid-grade solution between an entry level original iPad and the Pro grade tablets. Many people want to use the Pencil 2, but don't want to (or can't afford) the high price of the Pro.

Is 64gb really an issue given one can add storage via an external USB-C drive should they need it?

I’m certainly not going to upgrade to 256gb, otherwise it’s better to go with the iPad Pro.
I agree with you that if you are having to go to the 256GB Air, you might as well hit up the iPad Pro!
The 64GB is a fairly small amount given the new capacity needs that apps and high res videos and pics takeup and folder size of each app in Apple Arcade and others. Every time I get a new device and log in my Apple ID it loads all my apps and files that my other device has and the 64 GB number isn't the free space you even actually begin with...you'll most likely start with around 50GB and then if future iOS versions or heavy apps like Microsoft Office or any good video or picture editor is even loaded you are down to hardly anything and most of your other apps and files will have to be offloaded to cloud. Even though you can access external flash storage through the USB-C port, it is only to access certain files and rarely to actually use it as a normal everyday extension of app storage. You'll always want to record and write first to the iPad's built-in storage and then later you can transfer it off to the external storage. If you want more apps, you can only use the internal storage. iPad is truly getting more and more like a laptop, but it's not the case for reliable "always on" external storage. If you are using it as a light duty iPad and mostly an internet device, you'll never have a problem and it's a great amount and entry price on the Air.

I figure in most cases, 64GB is a fine number to keep the entry price down...not really "future proof" if you are wanting something that can hold much app files and HD videos. I think they deliberately chose those two storage levels very purposely and never gave a 128GB option (since THAT would have been the perfect safe amount). Kinda forces your hand to the larger one. I guess if you end up running out and it becomes annoying (like many of use have been through) they can depend on you purchasing the 2021 or 2022 iPad, lol.

All reports point to Oct. 13th.
I think tomorrow we’ll at least find out when the Air will be available, but it still might not be for another couple weeks. Apple left it ambiguous on purpose.

If you get the full $160 utility out of the AirPods it is probably a better deal. But you might also want to make sure you can get the Pro in a reasonable time, many stores are out of stock and shipping times are around 4-5 weeks.

I think it will be available to order right after the event and likely ship and be available in stores by the end of this week. Given that the focus is now going to be on the iPhone launches, I can’t think of any reason why the Air would launch right in the middle of them, unless they really are behind on production.

If we can finally order tomorrow, it's going to be so much fun to go from refreshing Apple's page to see if I can order to refreshing the tracking page to see its progress. That's one of my favourite parts of ordering something! ?
I highly doubt it. Seeing rumours that apple will do pre orders on Friday along with the iPhone with delivery starting next Friday which is just ridiculous imo. Why announce a product a month in advance and then make us wait till the end of October to release it. This stupid a14 chip that they’re so secretive about (even though the Geekbench results have been leaked) is getting on my nerves.

That’s just a guess, like every speculated release date so far.

Edit:
I see that this is what Jon Prosser is suggesting, but he's already been wrong about the release date twice before, so who knows?

Yes im the same, ive got £150 Currys/PC World voucher ready for my Ipad Air 4 order, so ill get it for £430 instead of £579 RRP price. Ive also got 6% civil service discount, but not sure if ill be able to combine the 2 without going through hassles. Will probably use the 6% discount for my Iphone 12 mini, like i did for my Iphone SE which i got for £393.

I’m praying he’s wrong but half of it does make sense.

Does it though? Handling iPhone orders and shipments is demanding enough. I don't really see why they would want to do a new iPad on the very same day too. Supposedly it's to protect the secrecy of the A14 chip, but the benchmarks for it already leaked like a week ago. And there there's also the rumours about stores having already received promotional materials and possibly even shipments of the Air 4 itself about a week ago...

I guess we'll know the truth soon.

Well, Apple Store has gone to "we'll be right back" for me, when I just popped in to check on the colours AGAIN.

As I mentioned above, this happens for the entire Apple Store site on the morning of every event. I'm afraid it doesn't necessarily mean that the status of the Air 4 is changing today.

...I think it will change tonight or tomorrow - doesn't really make any sense to delay it until Friday (when iPhone pre-orders will probably go live).
