Pretty much how I feel as well. I've never actually found 3GB to be limiting on my iOS devices so it wouldn't be a deal breaker, but of course I would prefer more RAM.

Frankly, the fact that it has an A14 was already more than I expected in terms of specs, and since I don't multitask very much on my iPad anyway, the better processor will probably do more for my experience than more RAM anyway.
I don't know if it's simply poor RAM management on iOS 13 or if there's really just not enough RAM for everything the firmware now does but I've encountered more possibly memory related issues on 13 compared to 12.

I've been getting more "This page has crashed and has to reload" errors in Safari (possibly due to being heavier desktop version?). They occur as frequently on Air 3 and Pro 10.5 (usually after sleep or app switch). They're noticeably more frequent on 2GB RAM iPads. Sometimes, the tab would even go into a crash loop but the problematic web page always loads after a hard reset.

There are also times when I lose the Full Page PDF screenshot in Safari or the Files app stops working (has sidebar but opening iCloud Drive or On My iPad just shows a blank). As before, hard reset fixes things. It just sucks especially in the case of the Full Page screenshot because that could mean losing the page I'm trying to screenshot.

I updated to iPad OS recently and I’ve noticed the on screen keyboard keeps disappearing in Microsoft Word. Never happened on iOS 12, don’t know if a RAM issue in 13 would cause it.

How are people feeling about the RAM situation? Are you assuming it has 4GB? Do you consider it a deal breaker if it has 3GB? Thoughts?
well, iOS 14 has definitely had a negative effect on my 2GB iPad Mini 4, apps are “unloaded” more so than iOS 13 and it feels a bit janky. my 10.5 Pro on the other hand (4GB) seems fine with the upgrade. so, yeah if it was 3GB and in-between those two, it might give me pause.

Definitely wouldn’t get the new Air as a replacement for the 10.5 Pro if that’s what it comes with. ;)

My iPhone 7 (2 GB RAM) suffers with iOS 14 like your mini 4 does. My air 3 (3 GB) is totally fine. Of course they also have different processors, but I suspect it’s the RAM that’s making the difference (it’s things like animations, app switching, reloads, etc)

Any place but here or there....
Looking forward to ordering a silver one.

Just out of curiosity, I've noticed that a lot of people are assuming that this iPad will have 4 GB of RAM. Would anyone consider it a deal breaker if it has just 3GB? I, for one, wouldn't, but I suspect that a many people here would be very disappointed.
Yes. If it only has 3GB, I may wait for the 2021 Pro, unless there are excellent sales on the Air, then I will use it as a stopgap for the 2021 Pro.

If I do get one, either Rose Gold or Silver.

do you think that the A14 chip is better than A12Z of the ipad pro? If you could choice between the new ipad air 256 GB at 839 € and the ipad pro 11" (march 2020) 128 GB at 900 €, what do you prefer?

I don't think anyone asked, but I am going to guess that we see the new iPad Air hit the store the week of October 12th. The current back to school promo to ends October 10th.

I've been predicting a mid to late October release since the announcement, but now I'm starting to think that an early October release might be more likely for a simple reason: The announcement, the website, and all the promotional material say that it's available in October. That's all well and good while we're still in September, but the deeper we get into October the stranger that will be to consumers.

Imagine it's the first or second week of October and you're the average consumer looking to buy an iPad Air. You go to Apple's website and try to put it in your cart and you can't. At the top of the page it says "available October". Well that's now, isn't it? What gives?

So once October actually comes along next week I think that one of three things will happen. Either they will change the "available October" to something even more vague like "coming soon", or they will finally give a specific date, or we will at least be able to preorder.

So, while we wait, what cases/covers are people considering?
These are the ones I’m liking most:

I know that they’re overpriced, but I’m think that I might actually go for the official Apple folio case. Still undecided though.

Apple has said the Air 4 isn’t part of the promotion, so waiting until the promo is over doesn’t really matter.

In fact, one might even speculate that they wouldn't have bothered to declare that if it wasn't coming out while the promotion is still going...

Please correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand it the iPad Air 4 has a unique speaker arraignment not found in any previous iPad. Specifically it has four speakers, similar to the iPad Pro's configuration. In landscape mode there's two on the left and two on the right. And as with the iPad Pros the left speakers reproduce the soundtrack's left channel and the right speakers reproduce the right channel. However in portrait mode, unlike the iPad Pros, the two speakers on top will continue with reproducing one channel with the bottom pair continue to reproducing the other channel. In contrast iPad Pros sense the change in orientatIon and react by sending the left channel to the left speakers on both the top and bottom and the right channel to the two top and bottom right speakers. If this is true then why wasn't the iPad Air 4 allowed to work the same way...?

Only two speakers but placement gives stereo sound in landscape.

However Apple.com's iPad Air 4 photo gallery (https://www.apple.com/ipad-air/) shows four speaker grills: two on the top that are spaced apart and two more on the bottom also spaced apart (when viewed in portrait mode), similar to iPad Pros.

Comparing the 2020 iPP 11” and the Air 4 specs, the iPP has “Four speaker audio” and the Air 4 has “Two speaker audio landscape mode.” I’m not sure why there are four grills on the Air 4.

Symmetry most likely.

That is what I also thought, but then I have realized that (for example) here in Czech republic, the Back to school promo ends on 29th October, so I think they have said it because they wanted to cover themselves in all countries.

I still have the original first generation iPad Air 2 so I think these new 2020 iPad Airs will be a viable upgrade for me (all the other iPads look almost identical to mine other than the iPad Pros - which I don't want).

Only thing is, is that Apple are only giving me £130 trade in price for my current iPad, on their website - I'm sure its worth a lot more than that..!!!

Sell it yourself if you can. Apple's (and most companies, really) trade in values are a joke. How much can they give you when they need to cover the cost of refurbishing it and sell it again at a profit? Cut out the middle man and you get the full value of the device yourself.
