Checked out the Air 4 at Best Buy and while playing with it, I noticed that as I rotated the iPad from portrait to landscape, and back and forth, although the screen icons would rotate normally, the info at the very top (time, WiFi symbol, etc) did NOT rotate and stayed on the original location. The screen lock was not ON because the apps were rotating, just the date/time, etc at the top did not rotate with the new orientation. Can anyone reproduce this with an actual purchased one?

Nope, I’ve just rotated it all four ways through 90 Degrees, and it’s all as it should be. Must have been an isolated ****ed unit in the shop.

No problems here.

Demo units at stores like Best Buy and Target have been screwy for me in the past... at both stores, I’ve come across phones that wouldn’t rotate at all even though the lock wasn’t on.

Speaking as someone who has gone from using the 600nit 2017 10.5 Pro for threee years to the Air 4 since yesterday 500nit is plenty bright enough. I’ve had various iPads over last 8 years and generally have them set about 35%-40% brightness (I am photosensitive due to keratoconus so I avoid extreme brightness).

After a day with the Air 4, the 120mhz ProMotion display thing is overblown too - for my use cases at least. I don’t use a pencil or game or do anything massively heavy on the graphics, so no real noticeable difference.
How does your Air 4 compare with your 10.5” iPP?

Much better for my everyday use, a step up definitely.

Feels objectively nicer in the hand without a case, the weight distribution/centre of gravity seems better - even though they’re the same weight. It’s the square edges I think, grippier. I do have rheumatoid arthritis and i notice a difference that others might not.

As already said I don’t miss the 120mhz ProMotion at all, but again may be different for people who use their iPads differently from me.

The Pro had 4 speakers, the Air 4 has 2 - but I normally AirPlay to TV, or connect to Bluetooth speakers, or use PowerBeats Pro, so reduction in speaker quality (if there is one) makes no difference to me.

On paper the camera spec isn’t as good - but I’ve never used the camera much on an iPad cos I’ve an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

May be different for others in diffferent circumstances.

Hope this helps.

How’s your battery so far? I’ve heard it can get just over 10 hours but not anymore. My air 3 can get about 12-13 with 30% brightness

pretty good. Have been using it more or less constantly today.

EDIT - just noticed I’ve been using the Air 4 exclusively to the extent that my iPhone is still at 90% battery now lol

I mean, is it even noticeable? Using the thickness of the iPad as a reference, that must be like half a millimeter at the most.

It might not be a visual distraction, but it certainly could be a tactile distraction. With Touch ID, a lot of finger probing will be occurring in that area.

How is the screen brightness? I saw in some tech reviews this one apparently has less nits than even the base model iPad. Not sure if true but it’s what I heard.

I like to leave my iPad at about 30% brightness
No issues here it’s very bright

If it helps I can tell you that I went from an Air 3 to Air 4 and I’m very happy with the upgrade
Well it’s too late.

I really appreciate you guys answering my questions.

on the brightside the new air isn’t going anywhere. After a year or two I can always get a new ipad. And you guys can be the lab rats for me in the meantime ?

I really like this new fingerprint sensor location using the same button for power up and sleep is much better and quicker to work vs a button on the center bottom of the screen.

So, potentially dumb question.... since the top button has Touch ID, wouldn’t a case on the iPad cover it up and render it useless?

I haven’t looked around at cases yet but just curious because I typically use one.

i bought a Ztopcase for 23 bucks last week and was worried about that. But it fit like a glove and works great wirh the new pencil and it stores nicely and it has a nice screen protector that does not detract from the screen quality and works with the pencil 2. the pencil actually slides nicely against it. Not bad for 23 bucks. I put the description from amazon.

ZtotopCase for New iPad 10.9 Inch 2020/ iPad Air 4th Generation Case, Built-in Screen Protector, Dual Layer Shockproof Full Protective Cover with Pencil Holder Support iPad Pencil Charging -Black

Not to scare you, but the real reason to take back the Air 3 is that over time they pretty much all develop the birth white spot issue.

Has anybody tried USB-C speeds on the Air 4? Curious if they went with 3.0 speeds on this generation of Air.
Interesting you bring this up. I am having issues importing photos to Lightroom. I’ll select about 80 RAW photos from my Sony and it will import a handful, or two and then fail out. Very strange.

No comparison everything really works much better. My first iPad Pro developed a white spot after the exchange it was perfect but this is much quicker there’s just something about this one hope it helps helps

Anyone have issues with their power button? Mine seems quite loose, particularly the side closest the corner. It's like there's a slight gap between the button casing and the internal switch, makes a clicky sound when just touching it but not actually pressing the button in.

Quite annoying when it's the primary way of unlocking the device. I think I'll have to return it. :(

Exchanged the first Air 4 I got yesterday at my local Apple Store today because it had either a dying pixel or dust under the screen. I opened the replacement when I got home and this one seems to have some light bleed? This isn’t normal, right?
