Then that kind of defeats the idea of the smart cover. Just buy a full case and save the $49.99 of the smart cover and the other for the shell.

Not at all. The back shell is extremely light and it allows you the option to remove the Smart Cover. Full cases are usually a mixed bag of compromises. The really cheap ones feel extraordinarily cheap and the covers are usually floppy and cardboard-ish. The expensive ones are way too expensive. And then there are the full cases that add way, way too much bulk. And even Apple's own smart cAse has a whole host of annoyances that have been well documented on here. So the back shell plus the genuine Smart Cover works the best in terms of quality and maintaining a light form factor.

A cheap back cover feels cheap and the Smartcover is $50. It doesn't stay in its stand. For $60 plus you can get a great case without compromise.

Oh ok, so your opinion is definitive for everyone. I get it.

The Smart Cover is $40, FYI. And the Caudabe back shell I have is $15 and feels far from cheap. In fact, it's got a nice matte/smooth feel to it. Find me a so called $60 case that feels as nice and is as light and I'll be a believer. Oh, and it needs to allow me to take the cover off from time to time. Good luck.

I can see how some people might be turned off by your suggestion, but I generally agree with it and it's what I've done for my own iPad. I also got the Caudabe back shell and agree that alongside the Apple smart cover it actually works quite well. I've tried all manners of cases and this is so far the combination that fits my needs the best.

Doesn't make any sense. The Smart Cover is meant to stand alone and as a stand alone case it sucks. You add a back cover and it's now a folio. You can take the folio off as easy as you can a "so called" two piece case. You either buy a smart over or a folio case. You don't buy a Smart Cover, back cover and make a folio. It's not origami it's simple case purchasing. I can give you a list of at least 50 cases that are cheaper than $55. The caudabe is cheap plastic and the Smart Cover should cost $9.99 with a warning that it does nothing good and everything bad.

A good back cover like Belkin snap shield and a smart cover is way better than a smart case, Better stand and you can take the cover off and magnets for back work too. Not everyone is looking for cheap options off ebay:rolleyes:

Yup. I just recently picked up the Caudabe Shell as well and I think the combo with the smart cover works perfectly. Not sure why some people are getting so worked up over this topic. Clearly people have different preferences.

I have it. It is an excellent case. Any questions in the mean time?

I had a hard time choosing between the pro version and this one but it seems that double the price for this one what seems to be the difference?
Does this add more heft and weight to the air? Is it easily detachable from the BT keyboard?

1)the pro version adds a protective that is "lifeproof"
2)it does add some weight but is not that noticeable or annoying
3)yes it is detectable. (From your pic above and below the new trent logo is 2 switches you pull together and the case is detached.

Hey that's quite the deal I was looking for really but still am in need the feel of leather, real or synthetic, is there such a case another than the kavaj and china made faux leather cases?
Is that silver hing metal or just plastic painted with silver? Is is that sturdy?

This looks too much like a laptop to me, but I hope you enjoy it!

Wood Options?

I would really like to find a wooden option for my iPad air. There was someone on etsy that was doing some nice back covers made from thin wood veneer, but he seems to be gone. A few have shown up on eBay, but all are shipped from China and it is very hard to tell much about the quality from the pictures.

In concept, I'm thinking about something like the first example, but made from real wood instead of plastic. The second example has its appeal, but I'd prefer something thinner; of course that may not be possible with wood.

Thanks for posting! I looked at your preferences and really liked the invellop. Using Amazon Prime I get fast shipping on the black one so I ordered it. I wanted a smart case that was thin. I have a great satchel case from SF Bags but I needed a second for traveling on vacation that would fit in my shoulder bag and the Invellop is perfect for that.

I just ordered the Invellop myself in black from my white air. Should have it tomorrow through prime. Been using a defender that I got on sale at staples but it was just too cumbersome.
