Have used Samsung myself and no, they're not crap.

Feeling more and more that I don't belong here. I've tried too many different systems not to see negatives with all of them. Apple products are far from perfect but people here make it seem like they are irreplaceable.

Moving on...
Oh the hardware is fine, it's the software. But good for you if an Android tablet works in your use case.

Because you keep telling us how you don’t understand how Apple does not allow multiple user accounts on their iPads. And we have given you a legitimate reason why.

And if you choose Android for that particular feature, then so be it. But keep in mind, iPads are popular for a reason… they have quality selection of apps that doesn’t compare to Android.
Where did I write that?

I wrote what I think the iPad needs. Then I don't know why everyone explains why Apple doesn't want/won't do it. For me it was just an answer to why I don't consider it a worthy replacement for a laptop.

People are different. No one in my vicinity except an outsider uses iPhone (and Windows). Everyone uses Windows and Android. I'm the only one who has run Mac and iPhone but I've also used/use Windows and Android (and Linux).

Apple is still big in my country, but possibly not as big as in the US.

Your opinion is welcome. As long as there’s healthy disagreement, it’s no problem.

And we are in agreement, Apple is not perfect. Heck… I choose not to have an iPhone because features I prefer to use are not on it.

Perhaps, a misunderstanding by me. But the way you approached it… came off as you didn’t want to accept the reason.

Is there no way to get spell check while using a Bluetooth keyboard? Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems the auto correct and spell check options in Settings refer to the software keyboard. Is there a way for me to get red squiggly lines under a misspelled word while using a Bluetooth keyboard?

These two need to be enabled for you to see misspelled words?

People care or don't care for quality iPad apps. Android itself has tons of apps of course, just as Windows. But tablets? Not so much.

Google clearly dropped the ball years ago when they stopped developing Android for tablets. Don't forget that they were very popular back when the Nexus 7 released. I have no idea what they where thinking when they just gave up.

I accept the explanation, although I've read that Apple has done things they previously said they wouldn't do. Everything must of course go hand in hand with their profit interest.

I can only express my wishes but as I said it's nothing important in my case as I don't need to share any device. However, I know others who do.

However, it's in my own interest to be able to pair AW with iPad and not just iPhone. It probably won't happen either, so I have to give up AW.

Yup. They are attempting to fix that mistake.

But I‘m curious as to what are their plans going forward. I feel as though Chromebooks and their tablet OS are going to merge at some point.

Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

If anything, Apple makes AW standalone where you don’t need an iPhone to pair it…. But that’s only if you have a cellular AW (well, that’s my hope).

I remembered the Pixel C tablet. It looked nice. Previously disinterested in tablets, never showed interest in it or iPads (only used a Samsung tablet when another family member bought it). Just got interested recently as I'd like to replace my phone with smart watch/tablet but it doesn't seem to work with AW/iPad. Maybe Samsung has something or I give up on the idea of a smart watch.

However, heard some rumors that Google will release a tablet again, and a smart watch. I might check it out. Google Assistance is awesome.

You want to get rid of the phone and use a watch instead? Sounds wild, but who know what happens in the future.

Yes 😁 I think phones are clumsy and awkward to carry around (no pockets on my pants/skirt/dress). I would prefer a less addictive device on the arm. Then when I want to sit down and email or do something productive, pick up a tablet with a bigger screen and keyboard.

Once Samsung and Google announced their partnership on a smartwatch.. it peaked my interested. Jumped on board as soon as they released the Galaxy Watch 4, I like it… use it daily. And about a few months ago… they finally released Google Assistance for it.

And it’s true… Google will release a tablet. But I think it’s more so trying to push developers into making tablet apps.

I never owned an AW (I prefer Garmin watches, don't need the smart stuff), but isn't that what you buy a cellular AW for? Leave the iPhone at home, still connected. Sure, you need an iPhone, but you can just use an older (used) one at home.

They build round watches, which is one of the main complaints I have about AWs. I just hate the rectangular style. Meh

Nice to hear. Does the watch work independently or does it also need to be paired? Can it only be paired with Samsung phones or even their tablets?

Of all the phones I've owned, the Pixel has been my favorite. However, Samsung is an option (Pixel is not officially sold in my country so needs to be imported). Samsung is also the manufacturer (in addition to Google themselves) that actually provides and promises updates over a longer period of time. Unfortunately, many other manufacturers are bad at it.

Don't own an iPhone today and don't intend to buy one just to buy an AW. Otherwise, I know AW works without an iPhone but you need to set it up with an iPhone.

I don't need to be able to do everything on the smartwatch, just calls, text messages, emails, maps, ask about opening hours and exercise/health.

The rectangular shape doesn't bother me, but I've never had a regular watch on my arm so I'm not that nostalgic.

hmm thanks. I'll try this when I get home. So if enabled and typing with a BT keyboard, I'll get red lines under misspelled words system wide (in the OS and in apps)?

I have thought about buying the M2 MBA, but in the end, my M1 12.9 iPad Pro is a M2 MBA replacement.

So it can replace a laptop.

Yeah I’ve definitely thought about this. Women’s clothes aren’t great with the pockets, so if I’m going to have to have my device in my bag anyway, it might as well be my iPP. Or just running out on quick errands with my watch. Of course, now that I have a car with CarPlay, there is that to think about too.

Unfortunately, Yes and no. Um, it can work independently as in you can make phone calls and do all the basics things you want (can even side load apps). However, you are required to pair it with a phone. And it does not have to be paired only with Samsung phones, but its designed to work best with Galaxy phones.

From my understanding. I thought your issue was you are not getting word suggestion if you misspelled word, because with those two settings turned off I’m still getting red lines under misspelled words.

For me, I keep everything on under keyboard setting… it helps when it comes to getting word suggestions or whenever I decide not to use a certain word.

I’ve considered this but the iPhone doubles as my point and shoot camera, too. I find that’s a bit awkward to do on iPads even the mini so I still carry both iPad and iPhone in my purse.

With that said, I pretty much prefer the iPad for most tasks.

Yeah, that is true— the camera bit. Well, in the end, this is why I end up with ALL OF THE APPLE PRODUCTS. :)

So I deleted G-Board from my iPad and now I’m getting the red lines. No idea why that would be the case, but bye bye G-Board.

I’m currently thinking on replacing a standard laptop with an iPad Pro 12.9.

Since I’m doing basic things like web browsing, emails, chats, would it be a very silly decision? Would I regret it?

I’m just sick and tired of all the blue screen errors, and other things that a Windows laptop has.

Also, I think the iPad OS is probably more secure from a security standpoint.

However, my other concern was about office apps?

What would be the best office app for an iPad? If MS Office would be the way to go, does that need to be activated on iOS devices as well?

As for keyboard and mouse, maybe I don’t need one.

What are your thoughts or advice on this decision?

All I’m really doing is just the basics and that’s about it.

I’ve mostly done this but I still keep desktops and laptops for the rare occasions when iPadOS won’t suffice.

MS Office for the iPad requires annual subscription. All new iPads ship with Apple’s free productivity apps (Pages, Numbers, Keynote, etc) pre-installed.

Personally, Pages is OK but I still prefer Excel to Numbers. Whether the iOS apps will suffice depends on the complexity of the documents you need to work on.

As I mentioned, I still have Windows (and recently M1 Mac) laptops and desktops for the times when I need to do stuff that can’t be done or is too cumbersome to do on the iPad. For me though, the non-iPad stuff is just 5-10% of my personal computing usage. The iPad works just fine for me 90+% of the time.
