It's not a computer. It never has been. Never will be. And it's not a computer replacement. It has *exactly what it needs* - with the OS *that it needs* - to be exactly what it's supposed to be.

I own one. It's perfect for what it is.

Steve Jobs: iPad Will Replace PCs
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/larry-magid/steve-jobs-says-ipad-to-r_b_598539.html

I say this about Republicans who say something stupid (very stupid) and then later deny having said it, only to have the quote pulled. To which I reply: "You DO realize these things are recorded, don't you?"

256MB RAM about dates it back to a 10-year-old computer. Ah, but we aren't suppose to point out Apple's blatant drawbacks, like no multi-tasking, LED flash for rear camera or changing wallpapers on their flagship phone until mid-2010. So kernkraft is actually spot on.

There is nothing wrong with the iPad that won't be perfectly acceptable in three years when Microsoft releases an equivalently spec'd zunePad. Enjoy and ignore.

Oh, do you mean the wireless syncing and/or HDMI out? Whoops!!! Oh, yes, but let's go back to burying our heads in the sand about the iPads lacking features all while knocking its competitors that, you know... actually have it.

Punch them in the face, or criticize something about them, like their looks, weight, clothes, spouse, children, etc. Once you start, do not stop. Be relentless and keep at it until they leave. Loudly laugh and jeer at them as they walk away.

Added the sarcasm tags, as there's some iSheeple who will follow this to the letter. ;)

Hey CalebF, you just proved the original point of the post, congrats!

Must admit, think the iPad would be pretty useless for my uses; my Nan on the other hand...

LOL i love how CalebF is ranting and raving about the iPad when his sig says:

MacBook Pro 15", iPod Touch 64GB, hoping to buy an iPad; I do NOT buy into the elitist image that selling iPhones @ Walmart tarnishes the brand!

Hate the iPad because of all of its "missing features", but you're hoping to buy an iPad?

Please, get off your high horse and accept the iPad for what it is already. Jealousy is unbecoming of you.

Your thread title made me lol.

There will always be "haters" and there will always be those who don't understand an item or have actual knowledge. The second group are the same people that take everything mainstream media tells them, for absolute truth. They don't have hands on experience of the product but start pointing out it's flaws.

Just enjoy your iPad  I want one but right now I'm so busy that it would collect dust.

QFT. I'm really busy with my job at the moment, but it makes my morning and night commutes to home really nice. A nice hour long train ride with my iPad :)

iPad hating = jealousy.

Anyone with a knowledge of psychology will tell you that, as a coping mechanism, people will convince themselves that they don't want something if they are unable to get it. To facilitate this, they will focus on any tiny piece of negativity relating to the thing they can't get.

But you can have one, so ignore the jealousy of the haters and enjoy your flashy new gadget

I certainly haven't seen any ihaters here in Perth, but honestly, I'm yet to see if anyone else in Perth own's an ipad, so I think the level of excitement due to the rarity is helping.

I have had the odd moment of feeling a bit pretentious when I walk into a meeting and pull out the iPad instead of a notepad. But as soon as I start showing presentations and the like, everyone forgets what the meeting is about and starts marvelling.

The funniest thing is when I'm sitting around in the hockey locker room with the boys before the game and at some point someone will bring up the iPad and give me ****. always amusing and always in good fun!

I work with a bunch of haters which is funny since half of them have iPhones. The other day they were having a conversation about tablets and one of them was comparing some windows 7 archos tablet to the iPad and saying how the iPad just doesn't compare. I felt the need to jump into the conversation and ask if he has ever used either tablet.

Obviously the answer was no. So I explained that the iPad doesn't have to run windows 7 so it doesn't need the same hardware specs as the archos tablet but the stuff that it does it is awesome at.

Then a few more people who have never touched an iPad felt the need to throw in that it is an "overpriced pile of poop."

I mean it doesn't really help that I have a tech job with a bunch of the people who are too good for apple (yet have iPhones...I know I don't get it either)...but I don't get all of this dissing a product before trying it.

And not only that but because I told them they really should try it before saying all this bad stuff about it, I am now called an "apple drone".

No, I meant what I said. We have no duty to put up with people who walk up to us and start criticizing our iPads. It is none of their business.

So I suggest that we fight back. Forget about the iPad. Don't even talk about it. Go on the offensive and attack the person who comes up to you. Even if he tries to walk away, follow him. Scream curses at him. Insult his wife and berate his children. Or loudly say that you wish his wife would die of cancer and the his kid would be hit and killed by a car. Become his worst nightmare.

False. It's a computer, just a different form factor of it. Having the same amount of memory as a decade old computer can be excusable, but should not be.

Well if you're going to get all nit-picky, your wrist-watch is (if digital) a small computer too. Should it also have 512Mb ram?

I've had nothing but bad experiences from friends, family, and casual people. I had a family friend rip into me with what could only be described as irrational hatred for the iPad. She said how stupid of a purchase it was and how useless it was. This from a woman that spent $200 for a pair of jeans. I pointed out that her vice is clothes, shoes, and purses. What's the big deal? My wife enjoys it and doesn't give me a hard time but the rest of the family rips into us having one.

Anyway, my experience hasn't been so good.

Right. It is time for make life a living hell for these people. Do not stop attacking them even after they have stop attacking your iPad. Persist in insulting everything that they are, do, and own in the most scathing words that you are come up with, until the relationship has run its course.

Do not put up with them. Do not wait. Do not even talk about the iPad. The moment they start something, attack them and never stop.

I've taken mine in public once, just to show some people some pictures I took of us on 4th of July. The pictures looked amazing on the screen and all I got was how awesome it is, etc.

I'm pretty sure one guy is actually going to buy one now.

I managed to convince my best friend into wanting to buy one.

He was giving me all sorts of crap about buying an iPad, but I just shrugged it off and continued playing Angry Birds HD around him, taking notes, listening to music, reading comics, etc.

And then jealousy reared its ugly head and now he's bitching about how they're out of stock for iPads.

 quit drinking that hatorade people.

Hate for the iPad is extremely fierce,

Sometimes all you have to do is mention it and your "friends" can turn on you, just for the sake of elitism.

Agreed! It pisses me off. If you don't like it, don't look. I pissed a guy off who was doing that **** to me so I started commenting on his clothes and how they look straight from the 70s and how they are not in style and how his shoes were crappy because they had velcro straps and not laces. He got the idea pretty quickly.

hahahaha that is awesome!

Meh, if people ask I tell them it's good for what I want to do with it and mind my business. I love my iPad.

I'm still waiting for mine to be delivered but already I'm getting grief! I have a iPhone 4 so naturally the first thing they say is "but it's just a big iPhone!" - people who don't 'get' the iPad probably never will - I don't even bother trying to explain why it's brilliant

Usually I get "Ohh that's one of them Apple iPads, how much did that cost?". Then I show them round it a bit, play a few videos and RDC into one of my servers and they end up wanting to buy one.
I just picked up the VGA lead and I'm looking forward to using it in anger.

I've not really met anyone who's had anything negative to say about the iPad IRL. However I do frequent another forum and I ocassionally look at a thread that does nothing but diss the iPad, it's about 50 pages long! I have to ask myself why do they care so much!? :D

No hate up here in the kinder, gentler Midwest, but lots of interest. It seems I'm constantly doing demos for passengers (and the stewards) on planes, and some interest at coffee shops. On my last flight I was next to two Kindle owners, both of whom said they were a little jealous. The ultimate flight accessory!

QFT. flights + iPad = epic win.

i live in silicon valley, where all the techies play

i did get laughed at by some kids. it was all in good jest though. i should have pretended to use the iPad as a phone.

i try to be discrete about how i handle the ipad in public. but it seems as though not many really care that much in my area. maybe since im at the epicenter of tech.

whenever i whip it out (the ipad...) i get some oohs and ahhs, but rarely, but then ill get that one dude i can overhear thats talking about how its missing so and so features, and how the price will drop, and how said person's smartphone can do much more, but i let it pass, i can go on a full day argument with anti-iPad folks, but alas, maybe another time.

I can remember the first day I bought my iPad. I took it into work and pretented it was the new iphone 4. I even proceeded to make a couple of 'calls' on occasions. What's shocking is that I actually had them believe this for a number of days. Very worrying !. :)

KC

The thing I don't get about the iPad hate out there, is who cares what other people spend their money on.

Just because someone might see the iPad as 'useless', or a 'waste', doesn't mean that the iPad isn't a great fit for someone else's needs/wants.

A device may fit my needs perfectly while coming up short for others. I love my iPad and find it incredibly useful for MY needs. This doesn't mean I think everyone should have one, nor do I think owning one should subject me to hate from others. To each their own.
