Yes, I think so. Just as the MacBook Air has increased to $1,199, the iPad is now effectively $449. Apple is still selling the legacy $999 and $329 models during this acclimation period.

If Apple intended for two entry-level iPads, they would have added a new name, like iPad XR or something to separate the $449 and $329 models. By using the same name, it suggests this is a transient situation.

There are people who content create for fun or part-time vs. those who do it as their full-time job. People who use iMovie vs. DaVinci Resolve. That is the difference between M1 Air and M2 Pro.
Well I think raising the base price of an iPad isn’t a good idea. But at least if they get rid of a model we’ll get to good>better>best.

The music vibration is the epitome of a first world problem.

I owned one from 2013 to 2017, the first few years were just fine on Safari, and it was still tolerable up to the end of the time I owned it.
I still have the original iPad Air believe it or not. Got it around 2014 I believe. Never had the vibration issue that I’m aware of. It still works fine, pretty slow sometimes and apps crash occasionally. The worst part of it really is that many apps are no longer supported.

I'm pretty sure the Air 2 was a little more 'known' for the vibrations. And yeah - having some older iOS devices myself, I can imagine the situation on iOS 12 is getting pretty rough pretty fast.

It is, most streaming apps like Hulu now require min iOS 13/14. Since that’s 90% of what I use it for, you can guess what’s on the Xmas list 😂

Which one would you guys buy if you had to choose right now?
I feel like the Air 5 is the best bang for the buck, but as I said above I’m coming off the original Air so really anything is going to feel blazing compared to what I’m used to 🤣 How bad really is the vanilla iPad 9?

The iPad 9 is fine and will feel pretty much like a slightly taller/wider version of your Air, but if you can swing an Air 5, especially with the discounts, you'll get years more support out of it than the 9 will offer. It will be a little bigger though, but not really heavier.

If you can tolerate the 1GB RAM OG Air up to now, then even the iPad 9th gen should be fine.

They should have used the iPad Air 3 design for the base iPad and keep it cheap.
I think the fact that the white spot happened in that model too as well as the Pro meant that was a no go. If the mass market experienced it, they’d have to admit it was an issue. 10.2 was as big as they could go in that chassis without it happening.

They may as well have gone 10.5 in the home button-less design considering they went to the trouble of making the footprint slightly bigger than the Air. Then it would be less messy between the 10th and the Air. The base and the Air can have the same screen size but they just had to shave 0.1 off before the form factor trickled down to the Air from the Pro.

Yeah, Apple got away with white spot on the Pro 10.5 and Air 3 because the market was much smaller and those customers are inclined to just upgrade.

That issue was deserving of a class action lawsuit though.

There should be at most two iPads; one that is something like the 10th gen for those who just want something to read on, and then a larger Pro for the rest of us.

Yeah, I'd imagine it will be like night and day! I tolerate it most days, but if I had to do anything on it more memory intensive than browsing or playing YouTube, I'd probably be pulling my hair out lol.

I'm too late, but the iPad lineup is pretty bad.
Welcome to MR. 🤓 wether you are late (and to what?) only you know. Otherwise it’s probably the excitement of one of your first 37 posts… one can miss parts of a word, we all have been there. In this case it is obviously an »ass« directly after the »d« before the period at the end. But you did a fantastic job handling all other aspects of your post on your own! 🤜🤛😎

What post was this? I am new to this thread, and MacRumors. I don't really chat with people about Apple. I am just very excited!

Edit: Is the issue from my signature? I see at least 1. My keyboard isn't very good. It's a butterfly....
