I truly hope the mini gets more than 8 gbs of RAM. They upgrade it so infrequently, and I don’t think 8 will suffice for long given how fast AI is progressing and how much RAM it needs.
That's weighing on my mind in terms of buying an M4 iPP. I only need 256GB storage which comes with 8GB RAM. I would keep the iPad for at least 5 years. How good will 8GB RAM be in 3-5 years time, and that's before you factor in Apple Intelligence. However, maybe the M5 iPad Pro will be the same 8GB for the entry storage version as well. Who knows.

Regardless of this AI nonsense, the Mini needs more memory and 8GB RAM would be perfect for it.

Why? What do you plan on doing with it? The M4 iPad Pro has 8GB Ram and it’s very fast and runs fine, if you want more then expect the price to massively increase and you’ll probably hardly ever touch 16GB without an M chip which the Mini won’t get.
8GB will Last for quite sometime. I agree though that the Mini could do with 8GB of Ram.

The Mini has never before had its RAM increased in more than 1GB increments and while I would agree that that is stingy given how infrequently it is updated nowadays, going from 4GB to 8GB would be a worthy upgrade easily lasting into the future.

I would not buy a Pro with 8GB, but then you could buy at least two Minis for the price of a Pro so can perhaps justify upgrading without skipping generations.

I expect the Mini to get 6GB but would be critical of this given that the Air received 8 more than two years ago now.

Although the Mini has not been refreshed for a while, you have to bare in mind that the Mini 6 has the A15 chip which is the base architecture for the M2 in the ‘new’ 2024 Air i.e second gen 5nm single core performance.
