Bought the Mini 4 during the BB sale. I have a 10.5 and an X but this still fits a great nich. Very happy w/ the purchase and iOS 12 beta on it.

Snappier than iOS 11 or 10? I'm still not convinced to let go of 10.3.3.

I’d wait until the final iOS release and the mini 4 is tested on YT or something. Apple’s main goal for iOS 12 is to make older devices faster and every device more efficient.
I don’t really foresee the iPad mini 4 becoming unusable with iOS 12, I imagine the opposite.

Definitely better than ios11, hard to say against ios10 as I can't remember what it was like on my mini. As mentioned above, you should wait for the final release and youtube tests.

The current mini being 4 what do you mean by slow? The only slow thing I notice is the fingerprint reader. Other than that all is swell.
I did not say the iPad mini 4 is slow (although this may vary according to user's expectations). I said that, on paper at least, the Galaxy Tab S2 seems to be quite faster than the mini. Or, based on specifications alone, I cannot imagine the Tab S2 being slower than the mini, because the discussion was about which are the options today for 8" tablets on the Android side. However, as Kal-037 already pointed out, the optimizations part can make a big difference.

Especially as Apple still sell it

I am quite worried that Apple does not understand what a great product the iPad mini is.

I want a new iPad Pro mini. I would pay the same as a 10.5.

I may end up buying a mini 4 LTE as my mini 2 128Gb LTE is quite slow. Strangely, I did better in iOS 11.3 than in 10.33. My apps stopped failing, and things worked better, not faster, just better.

APPLE: your iPad mini is the best size of all!
I have already emailed Tim Cook and provided product feedback through the official apple web page for that.

Apple understands the mini was a great product. They released 4 versions of it from 2012-2015.

Is it a great product in 2018? Based on consumer preferences, probably not.

I considered purchasing a Mini a few weeks ago. The price point was just too hard to rationalise for my needs. Emphasis on my needs, it could be a perfect fit for others.

Truth be told I still want one, and check the refurb store from time to time.

Don't worry about Apple. They know. The greatness of a product does NOT factor into Apple's decisions. The only thing they consider is: "does a product make the profit that we projected it to make and does it fit within the larger strategic direction we're going in?"

Your willingness to spend 10.5 Pro money on a Mini Plus (Pro would also imply including a smart-connector... that doesn't make sense on 7.9 tablet) is most likely not shared with enough other people to make it worth Apple's time.

FYI, although it doesn't hurt, it doesn't help to email Tim Cook. "Dollars" is the only type of communication that Apple listens to when it comes to product design and decisions. It was only the growing sales of 7" Android tablets that got Apple to respond with the Mini in the first place. The 7" tablet competition is dead, except for the Fire 7.

I want Apple to produce an iOS-based device similar to the Lenovo Yoga Book or Google Pixelbook. Buying the current iPad Pro simply tells Apple that I'm happy enough with that... no incentive to actually do it. Although I DID buy a 12.9 Pro (hoping that Apple would follow through) I went ahead and bought a new Yoga Book AND just recently, a Pixelbook for LESS than the cost of a 12.9 Pro alone (and gave the 12.9 iPad Pro to my wife). My little purchases don't amount to much, but if more people did that, Apple WOULD listen.

I suggest not bothering with refurbs but be ready to buy when they're offered for sale again. It is easy to buy a NEW Mini 4 for LESS than Apple charges for a refurb.
