Just picked mine up and yeah here too. Im not even that picky and the tint is distracting. Im going to give it until the weekend because ive heard in the past this is glue and needs time to dry because they shipped them before they had that chance.

Heres hoping it either:
A. Goes away or
B. they have stock by the weekend

I set mine up at the mall where my apple store is and noticed when held in portrait with the home button on the bottom my Mini had exact opposite of the gray bar on the left with a tint gradient from yellow to pink left to right as people complain about on the air. Mine was annoyingly pink on the left side and only murky green/yellow in the bottom right corner.

I instantly took it and returned it at the store. Showed the genius and he did say it was odd and offered a replacement on the spot. I'm setting up my second Mini now and do somewhat notice the same issue but way less to the point I can live with this one. Even as I'm typing on it now it isn't bothering me so if there is any is called burn in or curing this one is gonna be a keeper!!! ;)

Hmm looks like the mini isn't superior to the Air display wise and may in fact be the opposite.

Maybe thats why its 100 less. Its not as premium as the Air. I loved the screen on the air but returned it and am waiting on the mini. If the muni screen blows I guess ill go back to the air.

I noticed the tint when tilted too but that didnt bother me that much because im NEVER going to read/use it tilted in the manner that changes it. The yellow on the bottom landscape mode is clearly not supposed to be happening though and is distracting.

That said, the resolution is beautiful and im psyched if this resolves or i i get a good one on exchange

Looking at the this site on my retina mini side by side with my HTC One is depressing. The One is so much crisper, cleaner, brighter and whiter than the mini.

Finally have it unwrapped. So far the screen looks absolutely amazing. No shadow bar on the left like on the Air and no pink tint. The screen is slightly more yellow than the original mini, but nothing like the Air screen.

More to come once the apps are installed.

This is exactly what gets me, too. I still resent getting crucified in the other thread about the Air's screen issues. I paid 800+ for that thing and the screen is worse than the screen on Android tablets that cost half as much, if not less.

unwrapped my iPad mini Retina 16GB Black wifi!

got it from best buy nyc. not too many left in stock from the chatter i heard. may have been last 16gb black in stock.

first impressions - the screen is SHARP. Almost sharp that my eyes hurt!
No tint discoloring (yet) i hope not either.

glad to have the mini back in my hands

Silly question I know but do you all think if we wait for the 2nd batch of these in the beginning of next year that this issue will be resolved or will it always be like this no matter what

Then return it.

I can only assume those who claim the HTC display superior to the Air or Mini Retina to be either blind, are troll-baiting, or more likely little moles sent out by insecure Androidheads.

Seriously. Go to any store that has both (BB comes to mind), compare the screens. I've yet to see an Android or Windows based tablet, of -any- size, that matches the crispness, brightness and color saturation of iPads.

Check the media reviews and see how many of them agree with me.

Why'd you buy it?

There, in a nutshell, is all you need to know about this poster. Why moan when you can get your money back?

Sorry, due diligence was either not performed or the entire post is a fabrication. It's apparent he doesn't seek satisfaction, only reasons to whine.

This thread alone prevented me from using my $200 target gift card (form the iPad trade in deal) to get the mini. And the fact that 1 gig is not enough for these tablets.
I see it now; cherry picking iPad mini's at target. I just don't want to that anymore. If Amazon can make the best display on a tablet what is Apple's excuse?

Picked up my mini in Melbourne. It's a wifi model. In terms of colour saturation, it's perfect. iPad air was a disaster. The mini is just right. Greys look grey, blacks look black and most importantly white looks white. No light leakage and the transparency in iOS 7 looks awesome. No shift in colour between corners and to be honest it's probably the best display I've seen on any idevice to date and I've had all since the 2G.

Based on what? Two posters here? Check the other forums throughout the web. There is not a whole lot of agreement about any tablet having a better screen than Retina, INCLUDING the Kindle.

I don't get the love some have for the new Kindle HDs. Yeah, nice bright display and saturated colors. But totally lacking in tonal range. Photos just don't look natural.

A lot of subjectivity here. Some folks like having the muted colors I see in most Android tablets - they see it as more pleasing to the eye. Some folks see a sharp display and think it hard on their eyes. YMM(and will!)V

I played with a retina mini and a non retina mini side by side tonight at the Apple Store. I own a launch day non retina mini, and I just got my first retina iPad (the Air) last week(TOTALLY LOVE the screen), so I expected a huge difference between the two mini's.

I was less than impressed. The difference in screen quality didnt seem to be all that great. Sure the pics were brighter and clearer, but not THAT much. I loaded the same pics on both mini's to compare.

Where I had hoped to find a big difference was with readability of text. I loaded the mail app, and viewed the same preloaded emails they have on em. Again, side by side comparison wasnt exactly dramatic. Sure, the text was crisper and clearer, but the difference was really subtle.

Looks like I will be keeping my iPad Air, and selling my mini. Or I may just keep the mini too, for when I want a tablet I can stick in my pocket.

Nexus 7 FHD.

Color saturation and gamut is much better than the Retina mini (I have them side-by-side right now) and contrast, DPI, etc. are comparable. It's actually a very nice display for a budget tablet.

Hmm well then, apparently iPad Mini Retina is not as resolutionary as it sounds :D

Apple sells you something for $100 less yet promised to have ALL the perks of its premium line except just for the screen size?

Looks like a shoddy deal to me :p

Air, retina mini and kindle hdx 7

Thought the hdx had clearer text than the air. Like the screen on the air better than the retina mini and I do not notice a difference with the pixel density on the retina compared to the air.

One huge difference between the iPads and the hdx is the ability of the iPads to consistently stream hd video. The hdx had a hard time not pixelating and so frequently enough to be irritating.

I am kind of disappointed with the screen of the retina from my expectations with the hdx.

Why do people have to make all of these excuses before they buy something or exchange something? Just get the 1 you want and call it a day.

Great review.

The air and the retina mini are both great devices.

I've tested with movies, pictures and website side by size and from about 2-3 feet away, so far the retina Mini blows the Air out of the water in terms of sharpness. Some of you may be confusing tint with brightness which is a setting. No tint on the rMini here. Really crisp.

WOW! This sounds revolutionary! :D :D :D

RIP iPAD AIR :p :p :p
